C4 basically gives up at 11pm nowadays, even on Fridays, so that's why. I bet too the repeat figures end up rating higher on a Friday night than if they aired it at the same time on Saturday or Sunday, where the repeat may go unnoticed.

having a mirror background would show the studio was really empty

and why the 2nd camera which you only see a view from once, why not just get the one camera to pan round to show an empty studio

Have you read the rest of the thread?

I'm sure it is all false.

Someone on youtube used an adobe after effects tracking system to un-shakify the footage and zoomed into the bit where the balls were lined up on the left-hand side to reveal the balls moving up and down slightly throughout when the balls were being announced on the television.

The mystery deepens, according to The Sun newspaper:

Derren Brown first made his prediction of last Wednesday's lottery numbers nearly a year ago, it has been claimed.

According to The Sun, Brown revealed a second 'explanation' of the stunt to members of a studio audience when he recorded his Friday night follow-up episode. The footage did not make the final cut.

It is believed that the star played a video to the crowd which showed him asking children to pick one ball each from six bags on London's Oxford Street, where Christmas lights could be seen in the background. The balls chosen displayed the numbers picked at random in Wednesday night's lottery draw.

A source commented: "It was pretty impressive stuff. But when the show aired it had been taken out and Derren never mentioned it."

Why in god's name is this obvious trick being discussed further? What next?

"He's actually predicted every set of balls since the lottery started, but never mentions is outside the house", an insider reveals. "Yes, it was stunning", said another, "but he's actually very shy and doesn't like to talk about it.

People may be gullible enough to believe all this tosh, but do we have to start republishing it all here?

Presumably cut from the TV broadcast as the families of the children filmed picking the other 43 balls might have also sold their story to The Sun!

He's a true master of misdirection- his "deep maths" explanation is actually one of his poorer efforts. I fancy this 'trick' (compared to his previous event show efforts) would have been the simplest and quickest to plan and execute. Very simple camera trick and (arguably) weak misdirection of an explanation. It certainly wasn't "a year of my life".

It certainly wasn't "a year of my life".

Quite probably was... TV programmes don't come together in a matter of days. On the other hand, worrying non-stop about the lottery for a year, and for an idea to only come together two weeks before the event, which has already been advertised is pretty unlikely.

The "deep maths" behind the coin trick is very simple. Any sequence of three coins (HHH/HHT/HTH/HTT...) is equal in probablity when taken as a specific event. But if you are continually tossing coins until on sequence comes up, sequences with a mix of states are far more likely to appear than those which have all the same state.

Yes I think that's pretty straightforward to understand. But the premise of the main event- averaging out 24 guesses is complete b*llocks- this is what I was referring to.

His comment about a 'year of his life' was with him saying he spent a year staring at lottery numbers trying to work out how to predict the draw. I maintain that the camera trick performed would take an appropriately trained person a day to perfect with live transmission. Compared to something like "The System" I think this event took Derren very little time to plan and execute.

It's probably nothing, but I've just watched Russian Roulette, and I've noticed there's a very quiet voiceover during Derren's very long pause before firing the 6th chamber, followed by a little bit of music that sounds a little like a Channel 4 menu. It's probably nothing but does anybody know what this is?

Suspect the most time consuming operational aspect of the Live Lottery prediction was programming the DVE to attempt to simulate a wobbling camera. Good Vision Mixer DVE-specialist will not take that long to design that kind of effect.
