If only one hour is valuable, then maybe that could just go on Red Button, or be sold via DVD.

As the rest of my post suggests, 'most valuable' does not equal 'only valuable'.
Why should that sort of programming be demoted to red button or even sold via DVD when we already pay for it? Or do the needs of under 6 year olds not count toward the license fee?

I'm just going from my personal opinion, that a unified CBBC brand is and WAS better than the CBBC/CBeebies mix we have now.

I actually saw someone playing the so-called "Bedtime Song" on a piano on Points of View the other day. I was like "Seriously?"

How old are you? I'm guessing you haven't been a child for a while, and I therefore don't understand how you can judge the merits of the BBC's provision for children successfully. Of course, I'm also not a child, but as I've said, I've much experience with them, and I do think there are much better targets for cuts than this important PSB service.

And this is my point - you wouldn't be expected to understand the relevance of an under 6's service unless you were under 6 or were responsible for them. Last time I watched much of the CBBC schedule I thought it was terrible (other than horrible histories), but that doesn't mean it is of any less value, or that it should be replaced with a science/engineering documentary strand that I'd find more interesting. I'd argue the exact opposite from you, splitting the CBeebies and CBBC strands made them immeasurably more valuable than any mix of material.

I think I've been misunderstood here. Yes, the splitting of under-6s and over-6s was a good idea, but I believe it is better to put them both under a unified CBBC brand. For example, CiTV used to have CITV Telly Tots and CITV, now known as mini-CITV and CITV. They both use the same brand and are clearly a unified brand.

Compare CBBC and CBeebies. Apart from the first two letters, their branding has nothing in common, at least not since CBBC banished the blobs. Personally the two brands would be stronger under a unified brand.

Being someone who plays piano in his spare time, I can at least wonder why, out of many many classic nursery rhymes and songs, one would choose the very bland, very unoriginal 'Bedtime Song' to learn to play.

Confused But they're two strong individual brands as it is.

Well, it's just my opinion. And this is why I hardly express my opinion really, because my opinion is usually the unpopular one.

I don't think it matters tbh. I think that the kids will ignore the branding and for the adults it's a nice demarkation line.

One thing I completely disagree with however was the retargeting of the CBBC to younger kids only. I think they lost a lot when ditching the early teen audience and the failure of BBC Switch has not helped matters.

Hence my suggestion of one clear channel of progression from Cbeebies through to CBBC through to BBC Three - a complete channel/transponder demographic from early years through to early 30's.

Yes my ideas of the bloc programming would need refining - I never intended what I wrote to be set in stone as no schedule should ever be set in stone. But I do still believe that the 2 channels should merge. Yes it is unpopular but anything and everything the BBC is having to do with the DQF document will be unpopular to one group of people or another, unfortunately. It is about using money wisely nowadays, considering they are not going to get increase in Licence fee for the next few years, and having to take onboard BBC World and S4C.
