Interesting on that article that the picture of Noel includes two boxes which read '83' and '56'. Any reason why they make boxes that go past 22?

Could it have been some sort of text number, possibly for the competition in the early shows?

Could it not be some sort of special occasaion? The 56th person to win 1p or something! I do know that's not correct but something similar maybe?

I thought you had to pick from 22 boxes on DOND. Now it appears that it's 22 sheep instead if you can gambol to get a different prize.
The thing is everyone person on every show is 100% on return guarantee a prize, you can gambol to get a different prize.
I can see DOND having Question at the start to determine who plays the game...

Couldn't they just add a question, which isn't aired and of GMTV difficulty level in between every box opening, to allow the player to go on?
If it turns out that the Gambling Commission class Deal or no Deal as gambling then I'm sure Endemol and/or Channel 4 will just obtain a gambling licence. The real victims will be the smaller production companies who can't afford to do that.

They could but they really shouldn't accept any ruling that it is gambling or encouraging gambling - it's a gameshow based on luck, and just because the decisions are slightly more intellectual than playing "higher" or "lower" doesn't mean that viewers or players are going to become gambling addicts because of it. Indeed if that were the case I'm sure we'd have had stories in the press over the last week about how Deal or No Deal made someone lose their home.
They couldn't seriously tackle Deal or No Deal but then let racing coverage continue to be dominated by betting and ads for bingo websites appearing pretty much all day, every day.

But as has been mentioned by others - gambling is only gambling because there's a stake. DOND is mostly chance but you only gain, never lose.
There must have been gameshows before that are totally chance? Off the top of my head I can only think of that one presented by Tim Vine

Hate to be the one to break this, but:
Gambling Act 2005
(4)For the purposes of this Act a person plays a game of chance for a prize—
(a)if he plays a game of chance and thereby acquires a chance of winning a prize, and
(b)whether or not he risks losing anything at the game.
Although technically DOND is not a game of chance because contestants are not chosen randomly. The application process includes having to write a poem. So perhaps being a good poet could be argued as the element of skill.
