Obvious Mail trolling aside, the avalanche of bet in-play NOW adverts battered at viewers during breaks in sport coverage would perhaps represent a better place to start.

They're merely advertising a service provided by a company. There's no direct participation on behalf of any on-screen humans involved.

They're advertising a service tha can encourage people to become addicted to gambling. Deal or any other gameshow don't do that - they focus on individual gambling traits at most, not ask for you to bet and bet and bet.

It would be an absolute insult to the British television industry to destroy an area where they've had so much success both domestically and internationally over the decades and strip away even more editorial control. And to think this government keeps promising to remove red tape.

If they banned Deal or No Deal they would have to ban anything where anybody has to make a decision that might affect their life. Even doing your shopping is gambling under these definitions as you're taking a risk going into one supermarker when you might save yourself a penny by going to another.

Not to mention the fact that, you might get run over by a bus if you go to the wrong one.

Meh. No different to bookies being setup near/inside football grounds.

Blimey, Tesco are really chasing the profits nowadays.

Although the ASDA Arsonists got their own back recently it seems:

I'd have thought there would have been more of a problem with the show potentially being product placement for thousands of gambling machines and online games across the country.

I'm with Jon on this. Both Red or Black? and DOND have been developed into online slot games, fruit machines and even interactive games on the touch screens you see in the pub. I've written for Jackpotjoy, and on their DOND game you can go in with a £1,000 stake with the hope of winning £10,000. To compound the problem, Jackpotjoy are (or were, not sure) sponsors of the show.

I think the Gambling Commission has a leg to stand on if they're concerned about how these TV formats are being turned into gambling products nationwide. Although the public may see the prospect of winning money on these programmes as high, the reality when you're in a pub in Slough is a lot different.

The roasted Tesco bus is from Sheffield, lasted no more than 3 years! Gypsies set it on fire outside the depot sadly, not ASDA which would have been much more amusing. Boring facts over, back on topic Wink

Off shoot products are different though and I'm sure such things are licenced as they should be through the gambling commission. One thing people have to remember in this discussion is that gambling is not illegal.

The thing is everyone person on every show is 100% on return guarantee a prize, you can gambol to get a different prize.

I can see DOND having Question at the start to determine who plays the game...

These products are nothing new either. We all remember the EastEnders and Only Fools and Horses fruit machines of course.
