The guy had a chance to walk with £20k on the table, and chose to carry on.
I say he deserves the 1p, on the basis of sheer greed. To give him the £15k (or even the 1k) out of some kind of sympathy almost undermines the whole game.
I agree. Although the banker offererd a no money offer, its still a offer. Once the game is over its over. He shouldn't get special treatment just for giving him a birthday present
However, the difference with this particular game was the opening swap, therefore he should have rightfully won the £20,000 had he played till the end and opened his own box (I only caught the last few mins so am under the impression that Lynn had his original box).
Well I didn't like this. For me, it was a rule change and it robbed this guy of playing the game as it was intended.
At no point before have I seen or heard somebody offered a swap instead of a financial deal at the end. If it's in the rules then why is it a tactic that has never been employed before in 460 + games ?
The debacle afterwards was a saving face measure knowing full well that is not how the game should have been played.
So officially, is this guy in the 1p club or not ?
In the beginning i always thought that the offer had to be money and between the lowest and hightest amount on the board? Is there an offical rule guide?
7 Based on the amounts of money the player has eliminated and their perception of the player themselves, The Banker makes a cash offer to buy the sealed box. Whenever The Banker makes an offer, the player is left with a desperate dilemma... accept the deal, or risk losing everything
Yes, but those are not the rules there just a scaled down summary of the format. I'd imagin theres an agreement that players sign which would allow the banker to make such a move. If he can offer a swap at the end of round 1 there is no reason to say he cant replace the financial offer at the end with an offer of a swap.
They've been doing the "no final cash offer" on the continent for
years
, I did wonder when they'd start doing that over here..
So now you know how long it took for Hugill to sink to that level. Whoop-de-do.

But they've not even changed any of the rules, the Banker offered the minimum he was allowed to offer - the swap. I bet few people would have been complaining if he won the £75,000 instead.
I did try to type a response to this, but when I previewed it the swear filter ate most of it. And that was after I'd toned it down.
