It is the wording - generally it's worded as "£1000, £2000 or £10,000" rather than "up to £10,000".

Really though it's pulling at straws - it hasn't been a scandal for the last 18 months so why question it now.

Deal or No Deal is IMO one of the success stories of premium rate competitions - I doubt C4 could afford or justify such high prizes (in the studio game) if it wasn't financed via the premium rate phone lines, and Deal or No Deal just wouldn't work with a lower prize level.

We all know the show is recorded, so the production team, C4 ect know which box is going to be opened, so saying that you have a chance to win £15k is wrong, when you blatently didnt.

The people to whom the announcement is made do not know though. There is the chance of winning the largest amount every day, the fact that the draw has already been made is irrelevant.

If they didn't open all 3 boxes to prove that they were all diffrent or didn't show the draw itself then it would be on dodgy ground, but they do it totally transparently

I agree Inspector Sands - it is all very clear and Deal or No Deal cannot be accused of any wrongdoing in my opinion.

At the start of every show Noel says a contestant is chosen at random. But how come the contestant’s friend, relative or spouse is already sat in the audience? Surely it must be known who’s going to play the game so the friend, relative or spouse can be informed?

Old ground my friend - Noel never says the contestant is select "at random" - the word is "selected".

Contestants are allowed to have guests throughout their time on the show - quite often their friend/relative/spouse have attended a number of recent games, and quite often players say they've had friends and family down on previous days, but they have no-one there on the day they play.

The producers conciously pick the order people play, how long contestants stay there, who plays on a Sunday, special show etc. They probably also have information about what days friends and family are attending - so may take that into account too when sorting out their rota.

Having been to a recording I can say that it is at random and it a real surprise to whoever gets picked. The contestants always have "someone" they know in the audience for each recording, when they are picked they (the friend) will be moved to somewhere more prominent in the audience.

Oh, i was told that 3 of them are told that they will be chosen that day - they just dont know which order. Thats why they always have a prominent member of the family/friend there.

But isnt this compitition and the one which featured on In The Grid a pure lottery which T.V companys are not are legaly not allowed to do in this way? Dont get me wrong Im the worlds biggest Deal fan and would hate for the show to get in hot water I personly have no problem with the way they do things currently.

The contestants don't know who's being chosen - but it is predetermined by the producers.

Technically the free web entry gets them out of it - no idea how, but it does!

As I've said before, I have far more respect for the way Deal or No Deal do their competitons than having to answer a stupidly easy question - which would have no link to the show - to qualify.

The stupid thing with these so called "lotteries" is they'd be allowed to continue them - but have to donate 20% of the proceeds to charity, which is all well and good for the charity concerned, but IMO is of absolutely no benefit to the viewer/competitor - and in the end they'd be the ones who suffer with either smaller prizes, or more likely, higher phone rates!

Well as someone who knows the producer I can assure you that it isn't, and that the contestants are surprised because they don't tell them until their name comes up.

Same difference in response to the original question surely
