I don't think Endemol realised that it would originally be such a hit.

I expect the fact it's been a hit everywhere else would have gone some way to giving them an idea as to whether it would take off or not, in fairness.

POP FACT: It's the British version up for a Lucerne award.

I certainly think there's a lot the Australian version does very well, but it is just a different take on the same format (indeed, we've got the Italians to thank for the way our show has turned out). The French version is much funnier than our version. Our version is rather cleverly pitched to a late afternoon audience - consider the average age of the contestants for example.

I caught a bit of the programme yesterday afternoon - the first for a few weeks. I noticed in the viewers competition the VO explicitly said that you'd be charged for your call irrespective of whether you were asked to leave your contact details or not. (You can also make up to 30 £1 calls). Has this always been the case, or are we seeing TV programmes following the same route as our "favourite" overnight quiz shows where not everybody who gets through is in the draw?

Yes it has always been the case. The free web entry has been reduced to 30 attempts per show rather than the 50 when it started.

Todays edition ahd a contestant - forgotton his name already!!! - who gave up his job just to be on the show. He went away with £29,999 although he could have gone one deal further for £90,000. Good double bluff, though, advising the Banker that he required £30,000 then at the end of the show Noel read from the book that he only required £15,000!!!!!

Question is would you give up YOUR job just to appear on the show. Given the opportunity, I know I would!!!!!!

Good show today. He was a nice bloke. Forgotten his name too.

I wouldn't quit my job until I'd won the money though!

Umm.. The job appeals on air were rather comical but a very good game. I wondered, having missed a large part, if the rather nice gentleman who joining him was in any way connected to the contestant but to no avail.

It was rather nice seeing Noel on his verdict of the chappie, but still no the less a rather interesting game and only a pound off...

The guy on today was Gary - he's always smiling! The man in the chair next to Gary was a man from the audience who was the only one to put his hand up to say no deal at the offer of £29,999. Shame Gary missed out on £90,000!

The guy on the chair was just a stranger and the only one out of the entire audience who suggested that Gary should no deal at £29,999. Anyway he got wheeled out to the front to see how it would pan out and turns out he was right. Could have had an offer of £90k.

But Richard made up for this by giving Gary a pound coin hence making the full £30k Gary wanted and it turned out he only wanted £15k anyway and thus selling a £5k box for a shade under £30k meant he got him, twice. Great game.

Agreed - great show last night. A really positive atmosphere without the annoying crowd involvement alot of shows have had lately!

I think the last person on it who gave up their job only won something like a tenner - that was in the first few weeks of the show.

Pat must be due on soon - she's one who is bound to get a Saturday slot.

Also, as this is also technically a Countdown thread, now the Saturday episodes have ended, will they sort out dictionary corner as currently the guests are on from Friday to Thursday!

I guess this might be the case for a few weeks, then they'll sort it out with the finals!

Surely it depends what kind of job you've got. If it's serving customers at McDonald's, it's really not going to be too difficult to find a new job of the same kind.
