IIRC Richard and Judy had the upper hand against Des and Mel, which returns to ITV1 in the New Year.

Des and Mel return to ITV1 @ 1.30 p.m. on Monday November 7, followed by American drama Everwood @ 2.30 p.m.
Season one of Everwood from 2002, is a series about a family moving from a big city to a small town. It shows all different kinds of relationships between friends, girlfriend/boyfriends, father and son. It will be interesting to see how this performs, given the success of Diagnosis Murder on the Beeb at the same time.

Oh, I assumed that would replace O'Grady; when does that come to the end of its run, anybody know?

The People got it wrong then!

I did read that Richard Hammond (the little bloke off Top Gear) would be presenting "The Five o'clock Show" for six weeks before Christmas - but that was a couple of months go, but I've heard nothing since.

Broadcast a few weeks back said that "The Five O'Clock Show' is now a full series commission, will be renamed "The People Show" and airs at 5pm from early January for 6-8 weeks (unsure of the precise duration).

Apparantly he is running all the way up to Christmas this year as he isn't doing panto

Which I presume saves us from any special "The Christmas Show" type programmes and instead Paul O'Grady will provide the pre-christmas entertainment

I see from TV listings that Deal Or No Deal will actually run from Monday to Saturday @ 4.15pm. Those who can actually remember the Dale Winton flop I'm the Answer, originally scheduled six days a week (Sunday to Friday) lasted only five weeks before ITV taken it off air due to poor ratings.

Don't know how to say this really :-

Richard was really liked by everyone and Des Lynam has an uphill task to face. I wsh him the very best in his tenure.

Oh, I don't know about that. I know several people who couldn't stand Richard Whiteley and might have watched Countdown but were put off by him. Des might not have the uphill task you imagine.

The Channel 4 Countdown website has now been updated with Des & Carol.

They still have a page dedicated to Richard which is nice. Incidentally, looks like the Richard Whitely Memorial Service is being shown on ITV Yorkshire, 11pm Tuesday 15th November.

I notice that Carol has finally turned into an evil cyborg. Well, it's not as if we couldn't see it coming.

A little bit bitchy Jenny? I can't see why you should think this, unless you have had some personal experience of course?
