Will they be dropping the win double money Friday in favour of doing it on Saturday now then?

As having it Wednesday, Friday and Saturday seems a bit overkill

Well, I found it odd how they changed the second "double money" day of the week from originally Saturday to Friday. To me it makes more sense and seems more spread out when the double money is on the third and sixth day of the week. So I hope double money on Friday is scrapped.

Having said that however, doubling the money on a Saturday night at prime time would be pushing it a little, so I could have contradicted myself there!

Back to Countdown...

There was an article in my newspaper today saying that most of the public have complained to Channel 4 with a view that Carol Vorderman is trying to take over the show and not letting Des do his job etc. Apparently most of the complaints were also mentioned on a TV forum with over 3000 hits. I should think this is Digital Spy then. Wink

I have to agree that Carol has become to big for her boots. Channel 4 declined to comment on whether she was popular during Richard Whiteley's era.

Originally it was moved from Saturday to Friday because ratings for Deal collapsed on Saturdays.

However, since the arrival of Countdown and with Deal or No Deal airing later on a Saturday ratings are now more comparable to the weekday version.

DES LYNAM HAS QUIT COUNTDOWN...

... well, the Saturday editions anyway.

The Sun reports that Des was unhappy with the extra workload and as a result the Saturday editions will be discontinued later this year, probably at the end of the series.

Also, Deal or No Deal won the 7pm slot on Saturday - with 4.4m viewers, and a peak of 5m. This was up from 3m (peak 3.7m) the week before against Dancing on Ice. C4 are now set to sign a two-year extension according to Media Guardian, meaning Deal is on air until the end of 2008.

There are also rumours that ITV tried to snatch the show after Paul O'Grady quit for C4.

Just a note that due to the Cheltenham Festival they'll be no Countdown from tomorrow, while Deal or No Deal airs at 4.30pm, taking 15 minutes from Richard and Judy!

Well, I can't blame Des for quitting the Saturday show as 6 days per week does seem like a heavy workload. Then again, Countdown is a very popular show which is broadcast very frequently, so I think he should have considered his workload a little more when signing up to be host.

Six days a week is only a heavy workload if you're doing them LIVE. Surely they record them all at once anyway - so at the worst it would mean working a few extra days at the end of each series??

Shh! Watch what your saying. I can just here someone saying, what a good idea, "Countdown LIVE". God the thought of it!

Yes true, but AIUI and has it been the norm pre-45 minute editions and back in the days when Richard Whiteley was host, they always filmed one week's worth of episodes in a day. Now if you think it takes a good hour at least to film one episode and all of the preperation etc and then doing this 6 times in one go, it must take it's toll somewhere.

I'm not too bothered that Des wants out of the Saturday editions, as they're never one at a constant time, plus I hate it when they always say Saturday Countdown, making it the even more cringe worthy Carol Vorderman Show.....er sorry Countdown. Laughing

A great Deal or No Deal today - one of the funniest episodes so far.

Sarah was so mad I was almost convinced that when her box was opened at the end they'd be a Gotcha in their with Noel Edmonds name on it!

Also, seems quite unfair Lucy has been there 35 shows and still not got her go while Sarah has only been there a week or so.

P.S. Also again on Saturday the final break was obviously cut in after the show was filmed, with once again a shot of Noel introducing the break by the screen and no other contestants in view.

A friend of mine knows Marcus who was on Saturday night's 'Deal or No Deal'. Apparently the producers kept him for the Saturday night show because they knew he would be 'entertaining', and they asked him to be even more 'entertaining' during the recording.

I always reckon there's a bit of a fix to the Saturday shows.
