Indeed, there was only -
realistically
- a 10% chance of the offer going up the next round by being left with the £50k and £75k. Being left with one and a smaller number certainly wouldn't have guaranteed an increase - £50k and blue normally gets a £15-20k offer, and whilst you can normally expect a £30k-ish offer with the £75k still in play I would have expected the offer to stay resolutely on £25k - or perhaps even drop it slightly for a dramatic finish! A whiff of a 2-1 return on a 9-1 shot? Puh-leeese.
£25k was an exceedingly generous offer for the board. If it was a good £5-10k less, somewhere in the £15-20k range, his odds on increasing the next offer would have increased substantially from 10% to 70%. As it was it was a harsh result but...
