Just had a heart attack looking through the ratings data on c4sales - d.o.n.d. is beating LOST and other high profile primetime shows.
Something tells me that next time this will get the reality spin placed upon it. It's going to be Live, and it'll be coupled with skybet or something like that and you'll be able to bet on which box will be the 250,000 one.
I'd also hint hint at the potential of there being a hastily made xmas special of this show... £1m jackpot anyone? I really hope they have good cleaning for the chair leather
Noel said on the Channel 4 Webchat on Tuesday that a celeb edition had been mentioned, but it would'nt be this Christmas.
I'd let the normal editions run in a slightly later timeslot over Christmas and let the momentum build from there.
Let the show mature over 2006 before going for the ratings with the hour long, bigger money version.

That'll be not in terms of actual numbers of people watching but rather the audience share, since you can make a decent share with far fewer people during the day than you can during the evening.
According to the latest overnight just posted on c4sales, Deal or No Deal peaked at 3.4million which is really rather good for that timeslot.
Time: 1615
Title: Deal Or No Deal
3.0M (Peaked 3.5M)
... Like i said, knocked the pants off lost. Also it's a lot harder for a daytime show to top the 3M mark as there is a lot less potential audience. 7-8pm you have the true potential of TV Audience around - with about 10m watching each of coronation street / eastenders. These viewers will then disperse onto the multichannels and other terrestrial channels through the remainder of primetime (8-10).
This means you'll have around 12-15m floating around and channel hopping, however a cult series like LOST should be pulling in more viewers.
A final factor however is that E4 show the next episode one week ahead - factor this viewing figure into the one for the C4 showing and you have an audience of 3.1M (no peak data available for Lost E4)
But this still makes DOND the most watched show on C4 (by peak)
Lost was up against I'm a Celebrity hence the low rating, and the E4 catch up is doing excellent business as a result. But yes, deal or no deal seems to be doing very well.
I still say there's not enough in the 45 minutes for a transfer to primetime- it just gets too repetitive and drawn out. They need to introduce the idea of the box holders guessing the contents of their box for a grand, or cut the show down to 30 minutes.
Otherwise all you're watching a box being opened up every 2 minutes.
As soon as any daytime (or late night) show is successful the calls come in to move it to primetime - but in reality that would kill the show. Celebrities have been the cause of the slow death of Millionaire too - and celeb specials just aren't special anymore!
The competition is far less at 4.15pm, and ratings wouldn't rise significantly in primetime, if at all.
It's airing at 5.15pm over Christmas and BBC2 have moved The Weakest Link to 4.30pm, but it would be a tough slot for it regularly with Paul O'Grady and Neighbours to consider.
Also, in the early 90s wasn't Countdown C4's highest rating programme, certainly except for Brookside, for quite some time.
Thinking aloud here - and my thinking is copyrighted! - but it be so easy to have an interactive game to play along with Deal or No Deal, with viewers playing the same game as the contestant, but able to decide for themselves whether to "Deal or No Deal" each round.
I'm sure a premium rate phone-line for a cash prize could be available at the end for any contestant who beats the banker.

Can plebs like me look at the site or is it an industry only thing?
Another unlucky swine today - poor James won just a tenner.
Which just shows how cruel this game can be.
Plus of course the guy handed his notice in to appear on the show; wonder if he's finished grovelling yet to get his job back?
On a Countdown matter - the first Octochamp of the Lynam era came through today - Conor Travers at the age of 14 has wiped the floor with the previous eight contestants, an overall score of 890 and almost certainly guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals next June.
