Weakest Link, you go away with nothing, Can't get cheaper than that...

You know what I mean - and on the WL the winner nevers goes home with nothing! Could happen though I suppose if they failed to bank during the rounds!

I guess also a couple of Millionaire contestants have gone wrong in the first five questions and ended up with nothing.

As for Deal or No Deal - NBC have now picked up the US rights after ABC ditched plans for their own version and it will debut in primetime from December 19 - December 23, with $1m the top prize. They'll have 26 boxes and be more like the Aussie version.

Our current series is picked up for 66 episodes, so 11 weeks, taking it into early new year January.

C4 are set to make an announcement soon about the next series, so whether it'll run continously alongside Countdown, or just return in series once or twice a year I don't know. C4 have already commissioned a new series of The Coach Trip for daytime though, and I think are planning more Come Dine with Me's.

If you are very wise you actually leave with a copy of the shooting schedule, and a handful of toiletaries from the hotel. Like I did.

However on the US show they, "just go away", as in fact every contestant receives a fee for appearing on the programme.

I predict this will get a continuous series,

a)Ratings
b)Edmunds is happy, hes back on TV and getting some more dosh in his bank account
c)The phone in will pay for most of the winnings
d)It is incredibly easy to produce

surprisingly addictive and way tenser than millionaire used to be.

I guess a few people will be playing this at home at christmas with bits of card

Well theres an interactive DVD game of Telly Addicts complete with Noel going thru the rounds and a more upbeat rendition of the theme tune.

Currently watching yesterdays programme, how annoying is this Andy bloke? For once I'm really hoping a contestant goes away with a penny

(possible spoiler)

Sadly, he won £20k.

You may remember Andy told Raj to open his box on the previous show and he'd give him the £200 personally (the banker's offer IIRC) if the contents of the box was lower. Raj went away with 10p.

But Raj (allegedly) has posted on the Digital Spy forums and said that Andy did indeed give him the £200 he promised. You're right though, Andy was so arrogant and up himself through the show and didn't deserve £20k. I half expected Noel to just punch his lights out after the first banker offer.

For today's show: Damn, the lady could have £75k but bottled out at £31,500. Not a bad outcome, really. Although it came close to being a toss-up between £35k and £75k on the final deal if the former hadn't had gone two boxes earlier.

What sort of offer from the banker do you think we'd be looking at if a contestant manages to get to a position where there's £100k and £250k left on the board? I reckon he'd go straight down the middle - £175k.

Sorry for going slightly off-topic here. When I heard the news that Des Lynam was to present the new series of Countdown, I wasn't entirely thrilled - I thought that the show would always belong to Richard Whiteley (and nobody else...) However, I've watched most of the "Lynam-hosted Countdowns" and he is growing on me, he seems better than I thought he would be.

Yes, and I got the feling that the other contestants just weren't having any of it - all of his 'come on' type banter just fell flat

It will happen quite a lot - unless a contestant is left with 2 very high boxes at the end you can hardly blame them for going for the bankers offer - that is the only amount you can actually agree to.

I certainly wouldn't go for the risk if offered of £35K.... especially after being a potential contestant for as long as someone like Raj was
