You won't see many people open the box in this or any version of the show. If you think about it, what might be inside is only relevant when you get down to the last two, and most people have the common sense to back out by then.

Well if anything thats still good news for Countdown aswell, when it was on at 3.15pm until Richard Whiteley died the show usually averaged out at a smidge over 1 Million viewers on most days, usually beating BBC1, ITV and Five in terms of ratings. But 1.7 Million is very good for Countdown.

Deal Or No Deal is actually doing better than Countdown in the ratings at the moment. On Thursday it got 2.5 million compared to Countdown's 1.7 millon yesterday. And that is with far less publicity!!

Have a go at the Australian version of the game here and see how you'd get on: http://www.geocities.com/dodgypa/deal.html
I'm still loving Deal or No Deal, now it's been going for a few weeks Noel has settled down nicely and is doing a really good job

It just gets better and better - today's show was easily the best so far though.
It's proving I'm not as much of a risk taker as I'd thought - I'd have certainly taken the £33,000, never mind the £52,000. Well done to her though! We've still only see one player go on to open the box though!

...and its on Saturdays too - bringing up that Noel's House Party-esque feeling.
Ok maybe not, but at least Noel and Saturday go together again.

Provisional Christmas listings state Countdown (and Richard and Judy) end on Wednesday 21st December, with a Richard Whitely tribute on Friday 30th December.
Deal or No Deal continues throughout Christmas at the later time of 5.15pm. The BBC have conceaded, moving The Weakest Link to 4.30pm and putting Ready Steady Cook against Deal or No Deal.

I noticed that in the one I got with The Mirror today, is it going to be a new thing or a rerun of Television Man and Mr Countdown? As it is scheduled from 3.40pm until 5.15pm.
Channel 4 are keen to flog Deal Or No Deal, as you say it's on every Weekday over Christmas, the only thing that is on everyday other than The Simpsons.

They'd need it if today's contesant had took the box he'd picked and not sold himself short to the banker.

I hate to say it but, are we thinking Countdown may be axed within the new year?
NW
No.
Sometime in 2004 Granada and Channel 4 signed a five year contract for the show to continue production. Currently Countdown gets 1.8 million on average, which I believe is a few hundred thousand higher than what it had when Richard Whiteley was still presenting. When it is on it gets about 18% of the audience (usually beating BBC1 and ITV at that time), where as Channel 4's average audience share is 10%, plus remember it doesn't cost too much to make.
