My veiwing of The History of Britain was spoilt by the signing person in the corner of the screen. She takes up around 15% of the screen, plus the main picture is surrounded by a blue border, which also decreases the main programme size.
ITV Signing is much better - theres no border, and the signer is nice and small and hardly noticable to the non deaf viewer - the BBC Deaf Dept. really like to make non deaf people like me maaaaadd!!

That's so mean!
The programme you wanted to watch would have been on at an earlier time / date. The signing is actaully, bizzarley & freakishly for people who are what they call 'deaf'.
That's the language they use, to take it away would be quite annyoing for them!

yes, i know, and the sooner a deaf channel is established the better - but I'm just pointing out that the signing person is far to big on screen, compared to ITV deaf programmes.
If we didnt have to have these deaf progs on BBC1, we would see more News 24 overnight, which can only be a good thing
I think Sky are planning to have an 'optional in-vision signing' service in the coming year.
This will basically mean that on some of the most popular channels on Sky will have a sort fo 'red button' arrangement, whereby deaf viewers can simply turn on and off the signer.
Very good idea it is too.

Very simply idea to implement too. Surely its just a case of running two versions of the programme on different channels, like Sky News having a normal version, and a DOGless version for their small-screen Active version.
Although I'd prefer for it to be an option in the Services menu and not another 'press Red for...' DOG.

Yeah, surely they could have an option to switch on like subtitles in services.
I remember flicking past a programme on Channel 5 a few weeks ago which had this invision signing on, surely they shouldn't be on in peak time.
No disrespect to hard of hearing members, but surely signing should be on a repeat showing only so they can simply record the showing....

I now have an example of the BBC's signing woman - who really is so ANNOYING - spoiling my veiw of the gorgeous Philippa!
