Shame as I was enjoying that, proof that the new Broadcast Centre has it's problems. The announcement was obviously not prerecorded and I found it good that they managed to get out a few seconds of music.
At first I thought it was part of the programme! Things like this seem to be a common occurance now they've moved into "the most technically advanced broadcast playout centre in the world" Yeah right!
And a very strange audio quality on the breakdown announcements too - as if it was partially out of phase - perhaps two feeds of the announcer mic with a slightly different signal path? It sounded perfectly normal when they went to the promo slide for the Dead Ringers cassettes - maybe that was prerecorded?
Congratulations to the network continuity director in BBC 2 Northern Ireland analogue who managed to start showing trailers while Scotland / BBC2 NI (digital) were still blank screens. The trails shown at the beginning of the junction (eg Folks on the Hill) were then repeated on digital when they finally decided they couldn't show the end of Dead Ringers, but I assume the director of 2 Northern Ireland analogue then had to make some hasty decisions about which trails to show at the end of the junction that would end in time for an ident linking to the next programme. We seemed to be treated to the Audio Description ad to help fill. But well done whoever was in Ormeau Avenue for getting something on air before anyone else in the nations!
Good job big sister, (to be known as 'Nursey' for future TVF purposes, to tell the difference between 'Sad Trekkie' older sister & even older 'Nursey' sister!) rang during 'Charmed' advert break on Living +1, that she'd watched it & mentioned the breakdown, so I didn't transfer straight to DVD from tape, like I would've done normally !
To partly quote BBC WM's Ed Doolan, is this equipment 'fit for the purpose' ?
I was happy the cock-up happened when it did. The credits had rolled anyway.
But we missed the final 'joke' though.
This show, like last week's, a bit & miss though!
I want 'Phil & Kirstie' & 'Natasha K' for starters!
I wonder if they could do a spoof 'regional news' sketch somehow?
Perhaps base it on the odd ex network TV presenter now in the regions.(I could think of at least 2 !)
BTW why did they stop using 'Sophie Raworth' for the newsy bits anyway?
The real one only went on sprog popping leave!
They stopped using Sophie when she went on maternity, but never brought her back. The Dermot and Natasha sketches were rather good - taking the mikey out of, not only them, but Breakfast as well.
