In my opinion, and afterall in 2001 the agreement was this, that Wales was meant to keep it's seperate ITV identity. In other words the HTV Cymru Wales logos should had remained on air.

In respect of Scotland they have kept their independent identities, because they were lucky enough to have had their TV companies bought by a Scottish media company or so I was told.

What do other people think of that?

What 2001 agreement? And HTV Cymru Wales hasn't been used on screen since 1992.

Oh yeah, Scottish Television and Grampian, which are supposd to be two separate ITV stations, have been morphed into a single station with a split news service which happens to use two different brand names depending on which part of Scotland you're in. They're *so* lucky.

Anyway, I agree with your sentiment that it was stupid to get rid of the HTV brand in Wales, with HTV being the second strongest brand in Wales in 2002, and ITV not even getting onto the scale. I believe it was a late decision to do this, there are apparently edits of the ITV celeb idents with 'HTV' instead of 'ITV1' on them.

Yep, and although this is a mock up, they looked pretty much like this:

In 2001, on the Scottish TV website (The information is not on there now), it said that the ITV in the nations can opt out of the ITV network for to show proceedings of their respective Parliaments.

Carlton Communications had promised to keep HTV Wales as a single logo, but they didn't keep that promise, which was made in 2001.

Now that mock up looks nice.

No, when they bought HTV Group from Granada they said that they would retain the existing HTV brand onscreen rather than rebrand to Carlton as was widely expected. This led to the 'hybrid' idents with the spinning blue hearts endboard coupled with Carlton's heart animations and music. They did not say that they would not allow HTV Wales to be rebranded to ITV1 Wales (although many people quite reasonably assumed that this was to be the case).

Don't worry about it now anyway, I thought this forum was about TV not TV Idents. I do apologise now and I am quitting this forum.
