It'll be interesting to see if there will be any press launch prior to 3rd September. They did it last time and there were pictures of the new set released to the press, along with presenter profiles etc. I can't believe how quiet and "under wraps" everything has been kept. Or maybe not even the press are interested anymore?!

Of course they are keeping it under wraps, they've not made any big deal about because they did that when they ditched GMTV and look where it got them...

I expect they're terrified of a backlash in the wake of what happened. But there is a danger that they can be too subtle in the launch, and not gain any new viewers. I think they would be safe to air some promos and advertise the new show; without implying that Daybreak will revolutionise the way we watch breakfast tv. If they do any promotion, they had better be sure they will live up to their hype!

I hope they have a desk, as opposed to the sofa. At least then they will appear to be a new, more original show!

Lorraine hosting and a presumably fluffy GMTV style set won't be too much of a radical departure like last time, so what they should aim to do is throw a few adverts out with the new presenters before the launch but keep it relatively low key. Then they have the opportunity to iron out the creases in response to viewer feedback and hope further advertisement and word of mouth can get more viewers across the morning. But one thing instantly in their favour is that the press will report the ratings from 7-8.30 rather than 6-8.30, so the figures will be much closer to 1m (and they can use that as one last stick to beat the first incarnation of Daybreak with).

Hopefully they do those 10/15sec teases in an ad break, and actually a modern recreation of the original GMTV set might not be bad? Obviously modern colouring, materials and tech!

Or, and I'm thinking outside the box here, something original, inviting and fit-for-purpose that doesn't look like an explosion in a crayon factory might be nice.

That's why I said modern.. modern coloring, not ghastly pink, light wood instead of that disgusting dark wood.

that disgusting dark wood.

You mean like used, to critical acclaim, in the BBC's Olympic studio?

Was nothing like what was in GMTV's set, BBC's worked well, GMTV wasn't as dark.

The color of one's wood makes a huge difference, I feel, in giving the audience varying degrees of satisfaction. I suppose the vast majority of viewers will prefer the darker wood. Just a hunch.

As dosxuk said, dark wood has been used in the successful Olympic studio, and I feel it works very well in the Daybreak studio - the original wooden wall with the clock is still one of my favourite features of the set!

I would go as far as suggesting that light wood is almost synonymous of GMTV from the beginning. With the walls often in a lemon colour as was the case in 2000-2004. Even the latest incarnations looked rather light wood dominated.

Perhaps there will be a more virtual feel to the set, eliminating the need to go down the gmtv route completely. I think they are likely to steer clear of creating a GMTV clone since they may receive some ridicule for it.

The good thing (for Daybreak) is the Paralympics wont attract as many viewers as the Olympics. So they likely wont see as big a hit to their ratings, that and a launch always attracts new viewers.

However, there is also the issue that many Daybreak viewers who switched to BBC One to watch Olympic Breakfast might have found the programme better and decide to stay with it even after the Olympics and onwards.

Of course anyone who likes Eamonn Holmes Very Happy will be watching the Dark-Blue-Shouty-Channel.

It'll be interesting to see how C4's Paralympic Breakfast show performs - though luckily for Daybreak there has been no indication that C4 are looking to re-enter the breakfast market permanently - and even if they did under current management I suspect it would be more Breakfast-lite than Big Breakfast.
