I really hope it doesn't go further down the This Morning route because that is the opposite of what they should do. In fact they should just get Alastair Stewart to present a couple of hours of non-stop ITV News, followed by Lorraine's programme at whatever time it used to be on (8 ?).
Title: AS-AM. Description: Alastair Stewart presents three hours of news and features to start the day. Includes new 15 minute Police, Camera, Action shorts, ever hour on the half hour.

I disagree- BBC News is a much stronger brand than ITV News and if thats what viewers want as breakfast TV, then most viewers will naturally go to BBC1. If they take Daybreak down the showbiz/lifestyle route and don't shy away from what it is, then it could do really well because they're providing an alternative which is that breakfast TV desperately needs. It's also worth nothing that when the ratings collapsed when Adrian & Christine started, they used to top 1m on a Monday when they had X Factor contestants on, so there is some appetite for that sort of thing in the morning.
Does anyone know who has been commissioned to create the new set, or whether it's an in-house job?
I'm very interested to see what it's going to be like, I've a feeling it will give a clue to the general feel/gravitas/format of the show.
I'd imagine that the show is pretty much complete now, since there's only 29days left!

I wonder if it will be the same company as last time but I hope not after seeing the terrible job they did the first time. I want the new set to remind me of gmtv

I think you mean 19 days. The new Daybreak starts 3 September
According to the DS forum, yesterday Daybreak only attracted 475,000 viewers compared to BBC Breakfast's 1.73 million. I know in a previous post, I said the programme's rating's could potentially decline between 400-500,000 which it now has.
The main problem is that the Olympics is now finished, even last week the show averaged 560,000 so it appears to have suffered a sizeable drop especially since compared to the same day last year where the show managed 600,000. I know bpmikey raised a very good point that maybe it could be better as when the ratings rise after September they can tie it in with the re-launch. However, it still goes to show Daybreak has a long way to go in trying to bring back more viewers.
Also, the week of the re-launch ties in with Channel 4's paralympic coverage where there is to be a dedicated breakfast show from 7.00 - 9.15am hosted by Kelly Cates and Rick Edwards. Given the massive interest and boost from the Olympics surely this alternative breakfast programme might effect Daybreak's viewing figures during the re-launch particularly when producers want viewing figures to rise.
The good thing (for Daybreak) is the Paralympics wont attract as many viewers as the Olympics. So they likely wont see as big a hit to their ratings, that and a launch always attracts new viewers.
However, there is also the issue that many Daybreak viewers who switched to BBC One to watch Olympic Breakfast might have found the programme better and decide to stay with it even after the Olympics and onwards.
Of course anyone who likes Eamonn Holmes will be watching the Dark-Blue-Shouty-Channel.

Yes! Thankyou for correcting me!
For some reason, I have a feeling that this year they will get it right, and we'll all be surprised by its simplicity, wholesomeness, and slight nod to GMTV.
This thread always gets a lot of stick for its endless speculation, but it's this sort that I get mildly excited by!

These feelings. Do they ever come true?
Their track record speaks for itself, not a great omen really!
It'll be interesting to see if there will be any press launch prior to 3rd September. They did it last time and there were pictures of the new set released to the press, along with presenter profiles etc. I can't believe how quiet and "under wraps" everything has been kept. Or maybe not even the press are interested anymore?!
