Hello - Long time lurker, first time poster.

I was compelled to post with the recent comments about the appointment of Ranvir Singh to the first hour of the programme.

She really is such a dreadful presenter, and anyone who watched her on North West Tonight will understand. So wooden, no personality, false chat and she can't fill for time to save her life.

I really do think that she'll be the weak link of the show. It's a shame as everything else is looking so good.

If this is the same Ranvir, she most definitely isn't wooden or lacking in personality!

Just watched that showreel and I agree - definitely NOT wooden with LOTS of personality!

Theres nothing wrong with Ranvir. Shes a competent autocue reader & interviewer, shes got the personality and can have banter, and she can connect with viewers. Not really sure what more is needed for this job. She can hardly make the show any worse. Quite crucially, shes a new mum herself so she'll be directly in the target market, helping the connection with viewers.

...and that's what a showreel is for. To make a presenter look good.

Have a look back at the North West Tonight thread in 'the newsroom' for other views about her.

She might be able to 'read an autocue' but some of the times she had to fill for time were toe curling.

They've obviously judged her (either through market research or their own expertise) as appealing to their target demographic/s, and tolerable enough to the audience as a whole. Pleasing everyone is impossible, but if you really can't bear to watch an hour of news co-read by someone you dislike, you may just have to tune into a different morning programme.

Yesterday when Richard Arnold was doing his segment, "Richard Arnold - Entertainment Editor" came up on screen. It looks like Kate will defintely not be going back to that role following the re-launch.

Ahh I wonder if that is where Sarah Kelly from Tyne Tees and Border was, as it's been someone else on Mon/ Tue this week. Sounds interesting, I wonder what changes there could be though tbh. More bulletins? Longer Bulletins? More integrating?

I cant wait for the changes to take place. I am getting fed up with Kate presenting. She loves to shout at the politicians when interviewing them and I hate her sarcastic tones.

Will Macmillan upgrade their current set? The CSO is starting to look a bit naff, especially 'TV' on the right. I guess it is meant to look like the ITV Regional News Studio, surely it could be done better than that? Even if it meant taking a camera down to ITV Border and shooting their shots their with the graphics screens coloured blue and the backdrop screen green? So Ireland and Scotland can key in their own images?

Do they still have the clock displaying seconds? If so they should fix that first I'd say.
