Matt Barbet and Ranvir Singh confirmed to host 6-7 on Daybreak from later this year.

Good choice. This is going to be a great hour of news with experienced broadcasters. I look forward to it.

So will they be used to cover for Lorraine & Aled or will that continue to be Kate Garraway ?

They probably will from time to time but I could see mainly Kate & Gethin presenting in the absense of Lorraine & Aled, although when a big story breaks I'd expect Ranvir & Matt will remain on air until 8.30am (or at the very least Matt). Great signings. It will be interesting to see where this leaves Channel 5 News, but I just expect Emma to move 'up' to the 5pm bulletin.

A shame Matt's leaving 5 News for Daybreak, but the Ranvir and Matt hour will be solid using credible journalists.

There's a lot of speculation there for both Daybreak and CH5 News. Let's wait and see what the facts are in relation to the new show and line-up.

Maybe if ITN produced Daybreak, things would be better?

Yeah because that works so well at 10 o clock every night. Rolling Eyes They lose by an even bigger margin than Daybreak.

A little harsh, don't you think? You seem to be falling into the trap of confusing ITV and ITN. News at Ten was the most watched news bulletin in Britain until ITV changed its schedules in 1999. As a result of moving around the schedules so much, the late news on ITV lost its credibility - it was not ITN's fault. In fact, if you do some research, you'll actually find that ITN management have since critcised ITV for that terrible decision.

ITN is merely the production company - ITV is the client. Any commercial and/or editorial decisions regarding ITV News come from ITV, not ITN. How else can you explain Channel 4 News' credibility, which is also produced by ITN? ITN is merely following orders from its clients. Daybreak would be the same in any company's hands so long as ITV wants it the way it currently is.

I absolutely agree I think the signing of Matt Barbet and Ranvir Singh is a step in the right direction. Both are experienced broadcasters and journalists that will bring some sense of gravitas to Daybreak something that it has clearly lacking ever since it's launch almost two year's ago. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion's but I think they will add some credibility. My only criticism is that I wish they had given Helen Fospero a much more greater role in the re-launch. I really enjoyed her presenting stint on the programme last week and she has so much better chemistry with Dan and John.

I think C4's credibility has been waning lost piece by piece over the last year - but that kind of highlights your point as it does feel like C4 have been sticking their nose in a bit more than usual over the last 12 months and more and the C4 News brand is suffering as a result.

Helen could still be involved. I agree she should've got one of the leading roles but she could still be the newsreader, cover presenter or even end of week newshour presenter. And for all we know, she might have been asked but not wanted to do it. However I do think it seems like no matter what she does, she can't seem to get that break.

Cross Channel - is there any news on Kate's role and if Helen will be involved in the re-launch?
