I'm not a big Ranvir fan, however it's one of the few Daybreak decisions I agree with. Could you really see Lucy Watson or Tasmin Lucia Khan hosting the news hour format?
As much as I like Helen, she's more suited to covering the main part of the show and personally (although the focus groups and the target audience will disagree) Kate should have gone with GMTV.

Yes, I agree with that. For Daybreak, they must be very pleased indeed. I hope they use Ranvir's capabilities to her full potential, and that the programme doesn't mess anything up. She's a major loss of BBC, and solely because of that, she deserves to be seen in the best light possible with this move to show how good she really is. They have a duty to take her career up a few notches. I'm sure she's obviously hoping for the same too. She's not stupid, and her statement makes it clear how difficult a decision it's been for her. Come September, if everything goes right, she could entice me to wake up at 6. Too early, maybe for me!
I'm sure we'll see Helen pop up on everything as she always has done. What she has shown above all is great versatility. And I agree, I think they should call it a day with Kate. Great though Kate may be, what we've seen with Ranvir is that ITV desperately need to bring some new, talented faces through in order to make a real impression with viewers. Ranvir is a start, let's hope we see more fresh talent come through in years to come.

On balance I agree I think on the whole it's a good that they have brought someone in with journalistic experience such as Ranvir Singh. However, at the same time I wish they had given the position to Helen who has proven herself as aconnell says to be a versatile presenter. In addition, Helen and John in my opinion have a great partnership and strong chemistry together. In reference to Kate, I think she is a good presenter and would have been a great choice for the role as anchor of the newshour. Both, Kate and Helen woud have had the distinct advantage of familiarity with the core audience.
But the appointment of Ranvir does send a confusing message in that on the one hand they are desperate to get back to the GMTV 'formula' bringing back the likes of Richard Arnold. Yet, at the same time they appoint a news presenter from BBC North West to presumably make the first part of the show more newsier.
The key question which needs to be answered is that will Ranvir present the newshour on her own or will she have a male co-presenter with a similar journalistic background. Maybe John Stapleton will be given a more significant role after the re-launch.
Here's a thought... I wonder if Ranvir's moving to Daybreak will also mean the possibility of her popping up on ITV News as well? That would be good exposure for her. I know ITV News isn't the most highly regarded of news services, but at least that, together with her newsier role on Daybreak, might help her to keep her perception as a solid journalist, rather than become tainted as an entertainment/showbiz type. We know Keir Simmons has appeared on Daybreak and I think I'm right in saying that John Stapleton has appeared as a reporter on the ITV News at 05:30. So, I guess it's not out of the question. Maybe such a possibility helped her decide to move?
Interesting... Even already, I'd pick Ranvir up against Natasha Kaplinsky! Maybe she could get her teeth into say 'Tonight', trying her hand at investigative journalism, or at least doing some reporting for ITV News. It's a good way in absolutely!
Ranvir would be perfect for London Tonight to start with, depping for Nina when she returns to the programme. Again, Lucy or Tasmin wouldn't have the gravitas to present that programme.

I don't know nor seen Ranvir Singh but it seems like they over look some people, Kate Garraway and Helen Fospero, for starter. Like said they both have a familiarity factor. And if they wanted a new face why not Faye Barker? A more than capable presenter who has done undercover journalism, rolling news and news programmes like London Tonight and 5:30am, combined with her expeirence, and slight familiarity (inparticular with London) but not too much to be consider 'Lightwieght' and has no connection to ITV Breakfast at all (with the exemption of London News opt-outs) On the same note, Nathasha Kaplinsky too?

Kate and John outside for the 8am TOTH there if anyone's intrested!
Lorraine Kelly will be appearing on "This Morning" today to give an interview about joining Daybreak.
Just saw the interview, she confirmed that Daybreak is moving into Lorraine's studio and there will be two seperate sets on each side of the studio (not sure where that leaves Loose Women?). Also she'll still be doing her own show. So nothing that isn't already known, just confirmation. She said it will be 'later this year', they don't know when.

I would have to agree with this and I still don't get why are people are complaining about Kate being overlooked. She has being hosting off and on for years as the ratings dwindled. It's time for some new people.

What utter nonsense she is a regional news presenter, you'd swear she was Director General. 'major loss to the BBC' Get a grip.
