They should really have gone for an NBC Today-type set up, where the anchors are at the desk in front of a blue background for the first part of the programme, and then move to a desk-bound view of the windows.

You know how they darken the windows for music performances, couldn't they do that when its dark then light up the windows a colour instead of blocking them up with extra panels. At least they would keep the shape of the studio. ( A little like the old Five News studio shining an image on glass panels but instead just using light effects).

There would still be a lot of reflection, which looks crappy and cheap.

Actually, AFAIK, there is only one desk! The familiar blue background moves up and down to reveal the street-view behind it. I suppose, when you think about it, Daybreak are actually replicating the Today show's logic of screening off a dark window view. Admittedly the Daybreak version doesn't look quite as polished.

I thought that was the case - but phrased it in such a way that would work whether I was right or wrong Wink .

The difference is what Today do isn't meant to be an interesting background - in many ways its there to take away distractions behind the presenters. Daybreak's set up is as though there's still something to see, when in reality there's only the yellow lit boards are boring. Works better now they're using the wall with the clock on, though.

They need the coloured panels the same size as the window panels. Then it would look much better.

Seems the Daybreak Profiles on the website has been updated there are now profiles of Johnathon Swain, Cordellia and Gavin up there.

Is there to be any cover for Kirsty?.

Well someone will have to be drafted in at some point, when GMTV needed cover for Claire Nasir, to me it was all over the place until they finally got Philippa Tomson to cover the rest of the Maternity leave but that was because the leave was longer than it was meant to be.

So it should be organised in advanced or, get Lucy to do all the way up to christmas at least then bring someone in.

Surely the logical thing to do would have Lucy work full time - which isn't an unreasonable request given her other colleagues work the same hours four weeks a month - and use freelancers to cover when Lucy isn't available. Surely there are plenty of London-based freelance weather presenters, from Chrissy Reidy to Lara Lewington, who are capable of presenting a weather forecast for Daybreak every now and again?

Would it not be easier to employ someone who can become familiar to the audience though? Rather than changing presenters... Confused

Surprised they haven't thought of Emma Jesson, considering most recent revelations, or can't we afford to lose her in Central & Granadaland?

It wouldn't be the first time. Emma did it on GMTV for the first few months (rotating with Charlie Neil and Sally Meen) until they brought the weather (and Sally) into the studio at the early revamp. Even then she popped down to London on one or two occasions to do it when Sally was off.

Kirsty McCabe has already tweeted that Lucy V will be the main maternity cover. Only when Lucy is off that other weather presenters will be drafted in. Lucy Kite from ITV Central has been pencilled in for December 28th.

During one of the live break stings before the adverts this morning, as the camera panned down one of the christmas trees in the studio someone walked right past the shot! Laughing
