Yes, what exactly would 'sources in Dublin' know about it!?

Perhaps it's Gráinne Seoige trying to stir up some gossip? Wink

I don't understand all the media hype about Daybreak as this big disaster and it's ''terrible'' ratings, from how I understand it, together with Lorraine it has the same ratings as GMTV . They were never gonna beat Breakfast anyway.
I like the show, it's relaxed, has some news, some fluff, good hosts, nice set and look. It's morning tv and I don't expect anything more from it.

Is the problem that the two presenters were so associated with the One Show that viewers haven't taken to them on morning tv on ITV?

As far as I know, Daybreak's ratings are lower than the 06-08:30 period of GMTV. The problem is Daybreak was designed to increase ratings, and thus had a lot of cash spent on it to get it achieve this. It was never going to be easy to beat Breakfast, but at the very least it could have narrowed the gap. It's done neither.

It's just a load of hype don't think we should read to much in to it .

I think Daybreak is miles ahead of GMTV although it needs to be more newsy it does have a good format .
and to be honest nothing is going to beat breakfast.

As i said on Monday Kate is doing a great job covering Loraine even better in my view than Loraine.

Ginofish (or whatever your name isn't), its not just about what you think. This is a business.

If you like it, that's fine - but it costs them hundreds of thousands of pounds (millions, perhaps) to produce and the fewer people that watch overall means the money gained by advertising will continue to drop. The fewer people tuning in, then the greater the gulf between the cost to make the programme and money they take in.

Its not in ITV's interest to bad mouth the programme, which is why you'll find them denying press stories about cancellation or changes, but behind closed doors you can bet they are discussing any and all ways that they might be able to improve ratings.

ITV live or die on viewing figures, as that translates directly to income. The BBC *should* be able to take fewer viewers, as long as the "satisfaction" of those viewers is high (like a lot of the content of BBC4); but this isn't true for anything on a commercial station.

Your opinion is as valid as anyone's in respect of what you like and what you don't - but if you stray into the realm of what a broadcaster is thinking, you will come across as ill informed.

Is the problem that the two presenters were so associated with the One Show that viewers haven't taken to them on morning tv on ITV?

It's not because of their association with their previous programme as such. The problem with Adrian and Christine is two-fold. Firstly presenters don't necessarily make a programme a success. The One Show is popular but it wasn't all down to them, and it was an accidental hit rather than a big fully formed launch like Daybreak.

The main problem for the programme is that it's a new format which has replaced one that's evolved over the past 27 years. GMTV had the same problem in 1993 when they launched and ended up undoing most of their new format and becoming a TVam clone. Replacing an established programme with something new is risky

Secondly viewer's perception of Adrian and Christine has changed since their One Show heyday. They've lost any innocence and 'nextdoor-ness' they had now they're highly paid TV presenters, the viewers don't relate to them as well as they did. They've also lost the 'are they, aren't they?' side of their old on screen chemistry now that she has a famous boyfriend

A spokeswoman said: 'ITV has made a long-term investment in breakfast programming.'

It was reported today that another ITV production wing wants to turn the show around. However the show spokeswoman dismissed this as "speculation".

Yesterday Eamonn Holmes quoted many people on Twitter who said they are switching from Daybreak to Sunrise.
