So if Breakfast's ratings haven't really risen, have Sunrise's? If not, did all those people just disappear, rather than move channel?

Perhaps they went to watch the 'cuddly guy' on Sky Sunrise.

Despite Eamonns' previous rejection or annoyance of comments about his 'more than ample' frame, he seemed to be laughing about the fact that he couldn't fit into a Chilean Miners' phoenix pod . Laughing

Either way, this news isn't good for ITV Breakfast, is it? They haven't dented the BBC or Sky audience, but managed to drive their former audience to ever more niche channels.

There is such a thing as a radio don't forget as well as lots of other channels such as five and sky one.

And the web.

The off button is always an option.

Trouble is aren't those numbers just reach? It could be that people who watched both BBC and GMTV for a bit each are currently just watching BBC Breakfast for longer.

they're average audience figures, not reach

I doubt Daybreak is losing viewers at all - GMTV viewers were calculated from 6am to 9.25am, Daybreaks are being calculated from 6am to 8.30am. Add Daybreaks and Lorraine's figures and they're probably the same as GMTV was getting, there's probably loads more tuning in after 9am when the school run is over and that's when the peak is.

The media were never going to say it is a great show after all the hype in the build up, they're looking for any excuse to be defamatory about it at the moment, including the number of inches between Adrian and Christine's bottoms!

Wonder if any BBC Midlands viewers defecting from Breakfast are listening to Phil Upton @ Breakfast on BBC WM seeing it seems to get a plug most mornings?

Notice Jo Malin still getting her snout in during the 825 bully, to promote her show.
(Do they let her stand ins do a spot on TV too or not? Mind you, would you let Mollie Green on live regional tv? Nooo! Laughing )

While that may (potentially) be true, that's not to say dramatically lower ratings (even if the same but more accurate) would please advertisers.

Nope - those are audience figures. Breakfast's are across 0600-0915, Daybreak's are 0600-0830 (and don't include Lorraine - which is now a separate show), whereas GMTV's figures ran 0600-0925 (and included LK Today and the Friday show)

There have been discussions about reach (not sure if 5 minute, 15 minute or something else) - but those figures are bigger than the much discussed 700,000 vs 1.4million.

The bigger issue appears to be that ITV had led advertisers to believe that Daybreak would do better than it is - so there may be discussions about refunds on slots...

I thought a radio plug at the 0825 regional news was fairly standard? (there's often wailing and gnashing of teeth in my office if people don't hit the mute button before Vanessa Feltz opens her mouth)

Yes, we get Kay Adams and even sometimes Shereen Nanjiani.
