Rolling Eyes

is going to present with Dermot.

Not sure why they'd get her to - the X Factor format works perfectly with one host. Plus the X Factor is rumoured to air in early 2012 rather than during 2011, so I'd guess any changes would happen after this years run anyway.

In regards to the set - unfortunately I don't think the flowers work at all. Nice to see the team clearly working hard to resolve the studio issues, but adding those flowers doesn't help matters. Changing the sofa completely (partly to move the presenters closer to the guests, as Noggin and others have said, and also perhaps a warmer colour than purple) would be best.

EDIT: Also, that sofa looks unbelievably uncomfortable - I know television sofas often have very flat, small backs to make sure guests and presenters aren't slouching, but the back on that looks like it would give no support at all.

I agree the current format works perfectly and I have heard those rumours to I think it may be a better idea to swap X Factor and Dancing on Ice around or maybe make some new talent show for that time it will be Interesting to see what this big showbiz announcement is but in my view I think it may be a storm in a tea cup.

Also in regards to the studio I am not liking the flowers at all and I wish Daybreak would stop experimenting and be more consistent .

I love the sofa and don't think the distancing between the guests and presetners is an issue. But earlier in the week, Christine and Adrian were talking about how loads of viewers have been in touch to moan about the sofa, so I think it will soon be tweaked, or replaced altogether! I don't think they can do too much with the colour, as the whole brand is purple. I hope they don't go for something like GMTV/Breakfast shape, that would spoil the view. The prob with normal TV sofa's is that they would be too high and invade that lovely window too much. I can imagine something more like the one show coming, although that presents issues - maybe it will look too light weight? Or...they could go for a desk!! Shocked

I thought that would help calm everyone down, now you can say you saw him in early October, then He'll be back in November, maybe a just appearing on a monthly basis unless a major story breaks?

Plus as announced on Friday, some sort of big Showbiz announcement?

Yep - the drop in stay-at-home parents must be pretty worrying.

As David Kermode says, it takes a long time to turn around morning viewing habits, though I suspect some movement in Daybreak's figures in a positive direction will be needed quite soon if significant on-screen (and off-screen) are to be avoided.

Breakfast television needs a decent pace, as people don't always watch for long periods. Not sure Adrian's style is suited to that, though I think Christine could present most things pretty well (though the question is whether her ordinary-girl-next-door-ness has now been lost since she started dating Frank Lampard and appearing so frequently in the press).

I absolutely agree with you, noggin. My choice of breakfast television for the past 12 years has always been BBC Breakfast (News). I was forced to watch GMTV before school by my mum but as soon as I was old enough to decide for myself, I opted for the BBC. Now, as an adult getting ready for work, I only watch 15 or 20 minutes of BBC Breakfast a day. If I time it right, I usually get the national news and sport headlines, the national weather and if I'm lucky, I also manage to see the local news, travel and weather. I tried watching Daybreak shortly after it started and after the same amount of time, I felt I had learnt very little indeed. They spent most of the 15 minutes on complete drivel and the pace was unbelievably slow. They need to make it as snappy as Breakfast. Long, drawn out features are no good for the majority of working people who only watch for very short durations each day.

Incidentally, I think Douglas Hurd and Justin Webb are absolutely right. I spend far more of my pre-work morning routine listening to radio. The joy of radio in the morning is that you can get on with other things, e.g. getting ready, driving to work etc. Television requires your full attention to get the most out of it, and that's just something most people can't afford at that time of day.

However I don't like that ugly "In 10 minutes... sport with Dan" strap - I hope that's not a permanent fixture. I'm not keen on that handheld camera nonsense either, that should have been thrown out with GMTV (along with the choice of competition questions!). The tables look a bit on the dodgy side too, but they definitely look better on screen than in all the pictures released last week, as does the set itself.

I noticed they have been made bigger, not sure when this change came into effect.

I do believe that was new today, and I much prefer those straps, instead of the old ones for the 'Coming Up'. Also liking how they've taken the green room as the Showbiz room, as it's actually quite nice.
