I've got to be honest, I actually prefer the screens and flowers in place. When it first started, many noted how cold Daybreak seemed and I have to say I agree with that. So long as they don't now go overboard with filling the studio it should be OK - the screens and flowers are still modern looking and simplistic, so not heading down that GMTV route yet - and the live background will always be superior to GMTV's terrible printed background - can't believe how long that lasted in this day and age - even a video screen picture would have been better.

Daybreak could use a flipper box a la Seven's Sunrise for the headlines - that's all I feel its missing (oh and potentially a more worthy Penny Smith replacement than that lass who is always stumbling her lines).

In regards to Daybreak being nominated for the award I think this would be a major cue if they won it. I think its better than Breakfast as breakfast always seams a bit to heavy at that time of the morning , GMTV Was to Carla in LA and talking about film stars and things which arent rellay important and sky seems to lack atmosphere.

Daybreak however is the perfect mix of all this the studio is fantastic , The presenters, experts and reporters are all good in the roles and even Grainne sieoge had improved this morning and as for titles I rellay enjoy them , Loraine even though I can only catch it in the holidays I seen the first edition and was impressed .

I don't see why people are giving Tamsin such a hard time Penny was excellent newsreader BUT Things change and even though yes Tamsin Lucia does fluff a few lines shes improved a lot and asks the right questions and im sure would be fantastic cover.

the daybreak website is also good and more detailed than I thought it would be and has good blogs as well.

Yes, I've seen the various flowers start to grow, ad the screens are more prevelant

Hope that's it now, I like the clean looks of the studio

Careful Gavin - you'll have your post edited for nitpicking.

Getting back to the topic, however, I'd be grateful if somebody could explain to me how on earth Daybreak was nominated for the National Television Awards. It beggars belief that a broadcast that was no more than two weeks old could be included in the list. What's even more striking is that it's inclusion on the nomination list came after the broadcast had haemorrhaged viewers and displayed only a marginal increase on its predecessor. Given that the majority of the reviews for the broadcast were less than forthcoming in their praise, it destroys what little credibility the NTA had in the first place.

John Prescott - silly mistake! Coincidence though, The One Show recently had Pauline Prescott as a reporter.

Sounds like quite a good idea to me. Party conferences are quite dull and Prescott not only knows his stuff and has the contacts, but he is also fairly entertaining. It'll be different certainly

I wonder if they tried to get Lembit Opik for this week and Ann Widdecombe or Gyles Brandreth for the Tory conference?

I have to agree - half of the conference isn't worth reporting on because it's so dull.
But if anyone has a exclusive or something fairly significant the closets your get will be "Lord" Prescott - he'll be sure to have some insider info.

To be fair, whatever you think of Prescott, he is one of the more "entertaining" people in politics. And like you said their Liberal & Tory conterparts would be Lembit Opik and Ann Widdecombe - there the most "TV type" polititians.

I think people are blowing the NTAs out of proportion - it's just the long-list at the moment. And I always presumed that most long-lists are just any show that is eligible putting themselves forward for the award. Now that might not exactly be the case for the NTAs, but presumably only half of the 8 nominations in the category will make it on the final short-list. And I'd be shocked if Daybreak was one of them.
