I've just been reading an article about this that says: -

The breakfast show will be given an overhaul in the autumn to tie in with a rebranding of all ITV channels.

Are anymore details know about the ITV rebrand and will it include ITV News?

Wow! Is it only the date that's significant in your post, or also some of the other words, or shall we just have to keep guessing? LOL. Wink

If the spoiler is correct, it's almost a 360 degree turn to the 1980s.

My guess from that is either
a return to GMTV (good morning television) or a return to Good Morning Britain and TVam.

Or maybe even Good Morning with Anne and Nick!

No it wouldn't.

Let's hope for ITV's sake they get this rebrand right. I can't really see it making much difference though. Changing viewers habits, particularly in the morning, takes time. BBC Breakfast only really took off post-2005 after all, so if ITV think they can win the viewers back overnight, they're mistaken.

Since there is a 2012 ITV News speculation thread, maybe we should create a new thread for 2012 ITV Breakfast speculation so people can discuss Daybreak in one thread and the new show in another?

It's like 2010 all over again...

The fundamental problem was ITV's management of the transition between axing of GMTV and launch of Daybreak.. If they managed it through a softer re-launch and had the right presenters before appointing Adrian and Christine the launch could have been more successful (However, everybody is entitled to their own opinion).

If they had done a 'soft launch', how would they have stopped the press coverage, the daily reports of how the ratings were falling/how the presenters are rubbish etc.

All the people who keep saying Daybreak should have stuck to the original format seem to forget the barage of negative press that surrounded it on a daily basis

If you cast your mind back to October 2010 and Kate & Dan presented their first Daybreak under the old format, it went down quite well and it felt like a fresh take on an old format. Fast forward a year and it became an orange and brown mess, feeling very dated and tacky.

The fundamental formats of final GMTV and early Daybreak were the same and the differences were where the focus and direction lay. It has gone from being largely consumer driven to showbiz, lifestyle and competitions. Its just like a bad version of Lorraine and This Morning in its current guise, still recieves a lot of negative press, viewing figures are down and it is still slated especially on social media and even by its own viewers.

If they bring the newshour back with one presenter then it will be likely be Helen. They won't let Dan anywhere near it on his own, but I don't see the harm in giving that hour over to ITV News. It also then gives them the freedom to play with the new show and give it a lighter approach without pretending to be a news based show and coming across very lightweight.
