The Big Breakfast seemed to manage with the dark mornings, however I do remember two occasions where they moved the presenters chairs to the corner of the living room during those months and returning in front of the french windows as the mornings got lighter.

So what will happen with the current Daybreak studio??

What a shame, they had such a gem there but ruined it with constant changes and making it look like circus in the end. They did the same to program content instead of giving it a chance and producing some consistency, letting the viewers get used to it instead of having a different show with an ever changing set every other week. It's not as extreme, but 'this morning' on occasions has dark winter mornings where outside looks black (not helped by the fact that they have that special sheeting outside their windows). The difference is that there is a lot going on infront of the windows. Daybreak at launch, and still now had/has sofas/a sofa.

The big red sofa may help on dark mornings, but it blocks everything out on lighter ones.
Even the GMTV sets with their fake windows showed that they needed something around the backdrop to make it look homely (and to cover the edges).
IMO, it's why Andrew Marr's set looks better than Breakfast's.

SWatson7,

Apologies for my earlier post which was critical of yours. I am, in fact, generally very nice to newbies and everyone in fact. Others will verify the same. However, I do apologize nevertheless.

Daybreak and living under a rock: I don't watch Daybreak as I don't have access to it. However, your comment about attracting male viewers because of their superior intellect (which you later edited out) was quite unusual, in my opinion, hence I reacted to it in the way I did. Apologies if it came across as aggression.

Furthermore, having been here at TVF for eight years, I do quite well know how to use the quote function. Sometimes on an iPhone, it's not easy. Hence, I did something different above. Apologies if it caused you any alarm. As an old geezer, I sometimes struggle with tablet technology!

No hard feelings. This is a place where everyone is entitled to their opinion and it's not necessary to react aggressively or childishly. If I have done either towards you, I again apologize.

Once again, welcome to TV Forum. We all look forward to interacting with you in the years to come.

Kind regards,
James

It will be used for something else...The London Studios are a commercial operation and used by many production companies.

Isn't the studio already used by Al-Jazeera for their European sports broadcasts?

I've just read on TVNewser that Andrea Catherwood has left Bloomberg, with Bloomberg themselves saying that her departure was 'not related to a round of layoffs' which were announced by the network last week.

I've always had a feeling Andrea would be a good choice for Daybreak, I wonder if theres anything in her move from Bloomberg?

No that was temporary whilst their London studio was refitted for HD.

So does anyone know when Lorraine will take over? Are we looking at a September relaunch? That seems a long time to wait what with the "unofficial" announcement that Lorraine is taking over made so early in the year.

Mmm, I was thinking the deafening silence from ITV says something as well - sounds like an overactive agent trying to force an announcement. Bit of a kick in the teeth for Dan and Kate, if it is a September relaunch - can't say I'm a massive fan of either, but being kept on to effectively tread water for another relaunch can't be fun !

Helen has been great, and surprisingly have really enjoyed Fiona Phillips as a presenter (never thought I'd say that !)

Would have thought, given her connections, This Morning would be a more natural choice. Be great to see her back at ITV News

It's Jackie Brambles covering this week for Lorraine, she too, is a great presenter.
