I think Daybreak and Lorraine should be a bit more split! Like at the Daybreak TOH they say what coming up on Lorraine, I think two live link would be be enough? AT like 7.00 and 7.45? and also the straight handover at 8.30 isn't right, should close Daybreak should close with a recap in the bed of the close theme then back to the studio for the final build up then the handheld/jib close and an end board. After a break (or even straight after the endboard) Lorraine starts up in their usual way! Also news and weather updates in Lorraine should come from her studio!

Errrrr why?

The start of Lorraine seems like an extra segment of Daybreak up until the first ad break

I agree. I thought the whole point of the new titles were that Daybreak and Lorraine are separate shows. However the current handover is still like how it was on GMTV/GMTV with Lorraine. It worked well when Daybreak first launched as they closed the show properly, i.e. production slide at the end, then a promo for Lorraine. Surely in a way the Lorraine brand is being damaged by being linked in so much with Daybreak?

Well firstly, I don't think it's doing Lorraine's show any harm judging by the ratings. It is very much a stand-alone show, in the same way that BBC regional programmes are their own shows despite being linked directly with the news. It gives viewers less time to turn over by going straight into the next programme.

Stop trying to fix things that don't need fixing. I think Daybreak are much more concerned with their content and image than a jib close and an endboard Rolling Eyes

HOW DARE YOU FORGET ABOUT THE BUILDUP?!

Out of curiousity, have the ratings for Lorraine changed since they went straight into it?

How much are u willing to bet?.. Honestly I will bet u there won't be any relaunch untill september!

According to Broadcast, the planned re-launch in April has been set back. This mean's that there might not be a re-launch until at the very earliest June. Decisions on the the revitalised format and new presenting team are still to be made.

This is not good for the programme in my opinion because the longer the wait there is a smaller chance of any re-launch being successful (if any). They will also miss the opportunity to try and compete against BBC Breakfast when it finally moves to Salford in mid-april. I think Daybreak if continues with its weak and inconsistent format with too many advert breaks and competitions it will lose more viewers. According to the article Daybreak averaged 703,300 between January and February with a 17.77% audience share this year compared to an average of 727,400 (18.11 % audience share) in the same period last year despite the share of housewives with children increasing by 2.4% year on year.

They will lose more and more viewers considering the the effects of the schools holidays and Olympics.

The most worrying thing in that article is this

''Format changes are also being examined, but it is thought that any re-engineering will accommodate the show’s lucrative competitions and sponsorship opportunities''
Sad

It's worth remembering that most of the on screen talent changes for Breakfast will be done by Mid-March, Sian is back next week for 4 days and then Susannah takes over the following Monday.

How about this: replace the sofa with two chairs and a small monitor to the left of them, introduce whooping crew members, bring in a bed for celebrity interviews, two puppets to entertain the kids and a third host randomly knocking on people's front doors at 7am in the morning.

Oh wait.....

And Lily Savage savaging said celebrities on said bed? This sounds awfully familiar Jason, but I think you might be onto something there.

Plus, why have the news and weather updates from the Lorraine studio when they work fine from Studio 7? There isn't anywhere to present a news bulletin (it would look so wrong from Studio 3 because it's so cosy), and not really anywhere to present the weather. OH I KNOW! LETS GET LUCY INTO THE LORRAINE STUDIO, AND PRESENT NEXT TO THE FRIGGIN' FAKE TOASTER THAT IS ACTUALLY A PRINTER SO HALFWAY THROUGH THE BULLETIN... BOOM! HER SCRIPTS POP UP!

As for a monitor for the news, surely they can fit one of those into the oven
?

Very Happy This made me howl with laughter. I hope somebody does a mock of it Razz

Fiona was on Daybreak this morning, although sad circumstances, great to see GMTV faces together and joking at the end about the bands. Even handing over Clair Nasir, but for a competition.

I thought the same. I always thought there was a rivarly between Kate and Fiona but it was nice to see the two of them share a joke yesterday.

I too am tired of this Lorraine discussion; however, on last month's Viewback survey, one of the questions regarding Lorraine was about the news output on her show. The ticky-box options were:
- Same format where Lorraine hands over to Daybreak news reader
- A separate news reader for Lorraine
- Lorraine herself presents the news.

Food for thought! ITV are obviously discussing the news output across both shows.
