Personally I think they should go back to how the show started at launch - was much better back then but the 'I hate anything new and different and love GMTV' brigade put them off and it's slowly morphed back into a slightly worse version of GMTV.

Isn't this set just so much better then the current one!

It does and I think back in the summer when they were setting the show up, it did look great in the summer sunshine, but then come winter on air they were like oh ermm Laughing

Perhaps they should have launched in the Spring instead of the Autumn lol

Let's face it Daybreak morphed into GMTV as you say. But GMTV morphed in later TVam with added competitions.

So all those getting excited by potential relaunch, new studio etc can prepare to be disappointed again six months later when they revert back.

Each time it looks more tired and the ratings reflect that.

I genuinely believe that in a couple of years there will be no ITV Breakfast programme as we have been accustomed to. Probably hourly ITN news updates and recorded programmes to 8, then a Lorraine type programme live from 8.

I'd absolutely agree with you. I suppose they did give it a few months before starting to make everything GMTV-esque. I still much preferred the modern, different type of programme back at launch.

As for that set, it does look a lot better IMO, the only problem is that throughout winter, it would be two purple sofas sat in front of a backdrop of black. It's not practical for the time that the programme airs.
Though they've gone in a direction of trying to block up the window view, with the second wall in the winter, but also by the giant red sofa.

I'd have liked to see them to experiment more with presentation from other parts of the set, similar to the September 2011 first hour.

I absolutely agree the old set from the launch is just so much better than the current set. They could have experimented much more with the set as ftv say's without having to deploy those hideous blinds. What annoy's me sometimes is that when there is an weather update outside the studio from Lucy and formerly Kirsty before 8am and there is clearly daylight outside the blinds are still down until after 8am. They could raise blinds much earlier in the programme and remove the plasma tv behind the sofa bringing a clearer view of the studio window.

As I've said before I do not mind Kate and Dan presenting the programme, however it is clear they present so much better alongside John and Helen. It is also clear that Dan is way out of his depth when it comes to the more serious items. I think over the past few weeks, the programme has become increasingly stale with Kate and Dan constantly presenting the show. The content is still too inconsistent and lightweight despite the 'tweaks to the format'.

Although this is reflected in the ratings, for yesterday Daybreak only attracted 600,000 viewers compared to Breakfast's 1.4 million and Lorraine's 1.1 million. Even though it is a school holiday these figures are down from the 700,000 on the same day last year when A + C presented the show.

It will be interesting to see what happen's when they decide to announce the new presenters and officially re-launch the programme.

The dark views worked for London Today/Tonight! And didn't Daybreak say the were trying to get lights at St Pauls? with all of the other building that would be lit up at six, I think it would be fine!

Ah yes, that famous ITV Breakfast time franchise holder.

The difference being that London Tonight uses a big rear-projected screen, and Daybreak uses huge windows which cause bad reflections under the studio lighting when in darkness.

No it won't it'll be all boring and regular.

The usual high expectation/crashing disappointment infinite loop.

ITV will ultimately conclude that the best audience they can probably reach is the one that watches Lorraine. Maybe a million and a half punters.

As it is they're a deluded breakfast show in search of a 4 million strong early evening audience (who probably appreciate urban chic contemporary styling and an audibly boisterous crew), but they're not going to find them.

Not at 8am.

Because we're all too busy getting ready for work - and if the show did turn out to be good we wouldn't be able to sit and watch it or we'd be late.

RIDICULOUS.

You just want TVam. Or GMTV with some work. Its hosts were, to me, jaded and ostensibly disingenuous - and there were FAR TOO MANY competitions. Insultingly greedy competitions where the sponsored prize would cost buttons in comparison to the hundreds of thousands of pounds scraped in over days of being played.

But aside from that, which is easily fixed, the format was right. Headlines and a soft(ish) chatty topical agenda - more lifestyle than celebrity, some guests and occasionally a band to play out on. A format you can properly dip in and out of.

Must we really have another full-scale re-imagining exercise before they put it back to the only thing that works and buy another orange sofa?

I think DanielK is referring to the period when London Tonight used the current Daybreak studio . . .

You're quite right - I wonder how they got round that problem back then?

Didn't 'deal' with it at all, just used it to show that its dark outside and that the programme was a night time news show!
