John Stapleton being on the show for the last two days has shown IMO that Dan is not really presenter material. He seems like a really nice guy and is good at his Sports presenting, but as for being anchor of the main show, I do not think he is experienced, qualified or serious enough.

I thought John's interview with the TOWIE cast was great - he even made that a serious interview and asked a lot of questions that anyone who watches TOWIE has been wondering. I think John and Kate make a great team. While Kate can also do the serious stuff and interview the Prime Minister after years of experience, she can also do the lighter stuff as well.

Completely agree with everything here.

Dan is too much of a lightweight presenter, whilst he can be good, serious interviewing is not one of his strong points. Where as John is a good all rounder, great at the serious stories but can also tackle more showbiz oriented interviews like on Tuesday with the TOWIE cast.

John and Kate work great together and I would love to see them both as the main anchors but I have a feeling it's going to be two new presenters sadly.

I agree it has been great to see John and Kate present Daybreak together. John Stapleton has brought more gravitas to the programme which was displayed by the interview with the TOWIE cast. I also agree that even though Dan Lobb is a good presenter I have always's got the impression that he was only relief presenter material. He comes across as too lightweight to handle serious news even though he has great chemistry with Kate and is popular amongst Daybreak viewers.

I think if they appoint replacements they should really consider Matt Barbet and Helen Fospero for the roles as anchors. I also think John Stapleton should be given a more significant role in the future. In terms of changing the format, it is clear it needs to be more news orientated as we have discussed so many times. However, I would argue that 'In the Mix' is one of Daybreak's most successful items that should not be axed. If they change the format they could replace the segment with a more formal newspaper review without all the usual chit chat. It will be really interesting to see what changes they implement over the next few weeks.

I'll admit I haven't seen the interview in question but surely the juxtaposition of "gravitas" and "The Only Way is Essex" tells us all we need to know about what is terminally wrong with this programme.

If they are truly going to town with appealing to hassled mums, perhaps it might be an innovative idea to have two female anchors? For example, I think Helen and Kate together would be amazingly successful, that is if they had good content to work with! I remember enjoying the 2 shows during the GMTV era when Kate and Emma Crosby presented together. I don't think having 2 females would alienate male viewers either, especially if there was as a newsier focus.

Then again, I could be barking up completely the wrong tree here Razz

LOL. Nice one!

I am still gonna keep mentioning the names of Karin Giannone (a hassled mum) and Moira Stuart (a news legend, even more legendary than Stapleton) as sure-fire winning presenters.

As someone posted above, if we keep mentioning names over and over and over again, it's bound to be the case that one of us gets it right!

If the set-builders start to build a large, majestic podium, then we know that Moira has accepted the offer! LOL.

Aren't hassled mums meant to like a bit of 'eye-candy' in their morning programmes? The Turnbulls, the Lauers, etc...

The John Darwin interview this morning was truly brilliant, a great example of what this programme could be. I think that the producers have noticed that Dan can't tackle big news stories that well and let Kate take on this interview alone..

But then, I thought the producers thought that on the first show when Adrian and Christine started interviewing Kate McCann and out of nowhere Kate Garraway took over the interview. I'll try and post a link to the YouTube link later so you can see this cringeworthy interview.

I do think that GMTV did this well, they had two faces, but only one conducted the interview at any one time, meaning that presenters strengths could be used. With two presenters, one is always sat there not getting much in, the same applies. Saying that neither are as bad as being interviewed on loose women.
