I don't think that Sian will go for Daybreak. She'd be jumping from a programme with double Daybreak's viewing figures, to Daybreak itself. She'd be at a disadvantage from the off.

But as Sian is leaving Breakfast anyway - she's not jumping ship is she? It's a choice of having a job or not having a job, unless the BBC have got something up their sleeves for her (possibly something on Radio 4?)

I very much doubt the BBC won't give Sian something to do considering how good at her job she is. They'd be fools if they did.

In all seriousness I think I read they were going to announce something regarding the new presenters on December 1st. That dates probably a load of rubbish no doubt though.

Are you sure you're not relating December 1st to Daybreak with that being David Kermode's first day?

With Matt Barbet being employed by channel 5, would he be free to break out of his contract/employment?

Btw Stuart, loving the mongrels idea.

Well everyone else does it, contracts seem to mean nothing in TV. Besides with Channel 5's news service undergoing a change in producer he may not (which would be a massive mistake) be in their plans. He's the right person for Daybreak though as he would appeal to every audience (housewife, hard news, entertainment, Sport he's covered them all) and screen test to find him the correct partner. Tasmin Lucia Khan, Lucy Watson, Andrea Benfield, Nina Hossain (although given she's having a baby may not be able to start straight away) and Joanna Gosling would be the ones would be my shortlist.

Then John Stapleton and Tasmin (unless she got the main job and in that case Lucy) as deputy's and make Daybreak a proper credible programme of Journalist excellence. I'm not saying ditch all the light features bin the competitions or move them to Loraine, keep TV Matters past and the evicted from the talent show of the day which promotes the programme post 8am. Rebrand 'In the Mix' as simply a paper review and have two members of the Daybreak team alongside the presenters and move it to a different time slot.

With regards to the current Deputy's Dan Lobb should remain providing he learn regain some professionalism he had and the respect he demanded at the serious sport journalist before joining Daybreak. Kate if she is retained should return to her Friday/Deputy spot on Loraine and maybe do TV Matters one or two days a week along with the paper review. However her interview techinique need's serious work and if I was not thinking with my heart rather than what's best for the programme she would go.

Hire some sort of Economic corredspondent and perhaps have a short update read by the Newscaster at some point during the 6 and 7am hours. Have the main story read by the presenters and report aired before the news bulletin and have correspondents on the sofa talking about story and stories covered in more depth after the news. Oh and make sure no member of the production team who managed to remain from GMTV is able to have any say in content what so ever they're the ones responsible for the mess the programmes in currently.

Are you putting the words Tasmin Lucia Khan and 'journalistic excellence' in the same sentence with a straight face? Along with the grump and the other airhead on the programme she should be at the top of the bin list.

Digital Spy are now reporting about Matt Barbet being tipped for daybreak, and also mentions Sian being approached http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/a353150/channel-5-news-host-matt-barbet-tipped-for-daybreak.html.

Quote:
Channel 5 News presenter Matt Barbet is reportedly being lined up to replace Adrian Chiles on Daybreak.

Producers are said to have approached Barbet in the hope of giving the ITV breakfast show a greater focus on current affairs, following the departure of Chiles and Christine Bleakley. Daybreak bosses are apparently planning to pair him with BBC Breakfast host Sian Williams, who was offered the job earlier this week.

Current support hosts Dan Lobb and Kate Garraway will present Daybreak until the new duo arrives in the New Year, according to the Sunday Mirror.

"Matt and Sian are seen as the ideal team to bring more of a newsy feel to Daybreak," a source told the paper.

"It is a bit of a gamble as ITV cannot afford another high-profile failure, they are pulling out all the stops to land them as presenters."

Newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky was previously said to have ruled herself out of the running to become the new Daybreak host.

I don't think that Sian is the woman for the job, for me, she feels too BBC.

Not now, Johnny hates her now after she became co-host of his Capital breakfast show. He still spoke good of her though during the top 25 CiN moments countdown on BBC Three however.

I do wish our breakfast presenters could work more on making the show a success. When you look at the US equivalents, they usually work 5 days a week and seem to put a lot more into it, it almost seems more like a job. Here it feels like not just on Daybreak, but throughout they are waiting to sign off.

But they can't invent high-profile, challenging, well paid jobs out of thin air can they? That's the issue...

They either have to create a new programme that delivers an equivalent amount of work/pay (no mean feat) or wait for an existing post to become vacant (or sack someone and make it vacant - which isn't really the Beeb's style)

Also - by not moving to Salford, she may not have endeared herself at the highest level of the BBC.
