I was thinking the exact same thing, during the telly matters it looked like he didn't want to be there at all, slouched back in the chair, if they were I go down the celeb route he certainly wouldn't be a good fit. What exactly did he do as chief correspondent (is that what he was)??
I thought John Stapleton looked a bit uncomfortable, as if he's looking on thinking "why do I work with these people?"
But then he started talking, and wouldn't let anyone speak over him. I'm sure that during the link just before the break after TV Matters, Christine didn't say anything after John started talking about the Frank Skinner George Formby documentary.

He is/was titled Special Correspondent, he's done mini-investigations/reports like on the first ever programme a report on the collapse of Fare Pack and interviewed Amanda Knox's family. He's also probably third in the pecking line after Adrian and Dan.
I disagree he was uncomftable from what I seen (the whole 6am hour) they worked well together and he seemed to take the lead. And at 6:55 Tony Blackburn and Jodie Prenger along with Steve Hargrave joined them to discuss I'm a celeb and he seemed to handle that well to. I enjoyed John today would not be my main presenter but I would use him as the main cover with his reporting more regular.
If the 7am hour was more like the 6am hour I would watch more because it was watchable. What I would say is theres a certain type of story, you often see one of on breakfast like abandoned dogs and are not really news but more human interest. Here you have two or three and while ones fine they could maybe tighten it up with some more reports/proper interviews.
What would people think of Nina Hossain and Matt Barbet as a partnership? it came to me before with them both having experience of serious news (which is needed) and light stuff.

Well, yes a spell checker is good as a fail-safe - but a journalist who can't spell "scandal"? I think that's the most unlikely and unexpected error I've ever seen.

I very much doubt a return for Penny as since she's left, she has said that she loves not having to wake up at 4am anymore and that now she realises how drained she felt every day..
I'm with the majority here, would love to see Penny Smith back on our screens. Preferably as main show host but wouldn't mind her replacing Tasmin-Lucia Kahn either. What is Penny working as at the moment?

With the talk of Eamon Holmes, how about pairing him up with his wife, Ruth? They have good chemistry, and on Fridays they'll only have to go down a few stairs to do This Morning. Even better, they could repeat that morning's programme at 10.30 - the viewers wouldn't notice the difference & ITV could save a bob or two!

Yes I did read that a while back which is a real shame. I hope she has a change of mind.
I think Jenni Falconer would make for a good presenter but I must admit I think that Helen Fospero did a great job on the times that she covered for Kate recently. She came across warm and likeable and was good at interviewing the guests too, wouldn't mind seeing her becoming a permanent anchor.

It all depends on the direction they take but if they took Daybreak in a newsier direction I'd be tempted to cut it to 6-8am and start Lorraine half an hour earlier and make that more entertainment/drivel focused - and perhaps rebrand it - "Guest Host" would be more appropriate.
How does Lorraine rate actually - it never seems to get reported and as Daybreak is reported separately the figures are hardly like for like with GMTV, which presumably was usually reported as the full 6.00-9.25am slot.

Lorraine usually gets 900,000 or 1 million. Usually 200/300,000 more than Daybreak.
