It was partly the lack of consistency that ended GMTV. I understand they need to change things to make them better, but for only a year after launch, there have been countless changes which should have been considered before the very beginning of the start.

I agree with you. Lets face it though, the countless changes (to the set) have all occurred for one reason - the window and the dark mornings that have always happened during the winter months.

When GMTV was still around there were plenty of those fantasy schedule types on here who suggested it would be great if GMTV moved into that studio and plenty here who saw the problem with a studio overlooking a dark sky. Why they didn't check this out before spending the money on the studio is beyond me but after they had I think they were (and still are) reluctant to admit that moving into the skyline studio was a big mistake. At least they didn't have the studio built especially for the programme though.

Content-wise, I don't think the programme was all that bad when it begun, initially it was trying too hard to be the One Show in the morning, but it settled into to a watchable programme, I think the negative press had an impact though and then things moved towards being GMTV again, but not the better for it.

I watched today for the first time in a while and to be honest I'm not left with a desire to watch again tomorrow.

The new look is much more like GMTV, especially the new breakbumper. They should have just stuck the Daybreak logo over the old GMTV design! Laughing

Yes, indeed. I'm still not sure I like the design of them, though. They look like someone's put a jigsaw together incorrectly...

It's a rotten shame I didn't capture the new break-bumper.

Are you sure there was a new bumper? There was one at about 8.15 which was just a blurred shot of the sports desk. Did you mean that?

The new news desk reminds me very much of the Early Shows... I am struggling to find a shot of it but it is basically the presenter standing up in front of a large screen and behind a desk.

Yes, I did. My mistake. A very blurred shot, there!

Meanwhile on BBC Breakfast, they just have some Barcos and a sofa, and get better ratings. It shows really that people watch for content and substance, not stylistic studios.

That's strange, I watch Daybreak for its warmth and fun in the morning whereas the Breakfast presenters just seem cold and a bit boring. I've had a lot of laughs in the morning from watching guests and interviews on Daybreak. The hosts are muh better and much more personality.

I think it was a shame that they moved from the news wall studio area to the normal studio area at 7. Personally I think they should keep this news wall studio area and work with that, I do something else with the standard studio area.

Although, hopefully we will see more of it when mornings are truly dark.

It's probably more to do with the fact people want something on in the background slightly newsish and with a clock so they know the time, and Breakfast does that without going to ads.

I don't see why Daybreak can't keep the clock on during the ads.

Ive wondered if there's some legal thing behind this. Usually during ad breaks, the logo dog disappears.

But, Soccer Saturday on SSN keep all OSG on during the ads.

Depends on arrangements made with advertisers.

I'm fairly sure there's also an Ofcom rule whereby terms and conditions (small print) text, usually found in the prime DOG locations of the top or bottom of the screen, can't be obstructed by channel graphics. The MTV Network channels, for example, turn their DOGs transparent during ad breaks for this reason (and no, I don't know why they don't just leave them that way either).

Although adverts have reduced screen space on Soccer Saturday, programme graphics are not overlaid on them.
