Also - how can ratings for breakfast television work, especially GMTV? Their core audience was fairly unlikely to have the boxes on their tellies, more a makeshift aerial and a clapped out CRT overscan machine. That's why their figures might seem a bit skew-wiff compared to a programme more upmarket demographic maybe?

I'm pretty sure that the BARB devices are on every TV in the house not just one. The type of TV is irrelevant.

You might have a bit of a point though as those in the survey houses might be less inclined to press their 'I'm viewing' buttons when they're getting ready for work and of course many people dip in and out of programmes - they'll see a bit when making a cuppa but not when cleaning their teeth for example

Ah I think you've missed my point (although given a very valid one yourself) are GMTV's ex-demographic likely to have been included in BARB ratings? I hate to say it but their core audience was probably watching illegally, or at least wouldn't be interested in BARB...

Is it a virtual newsroom these days? thought it was an orangey background

GMTV, like it or not, occupied a gap in the market for warm television. Arguably the warmest thing on the box in the AM now is Frasier - intelligent yet slapstick farcical comedy.

BBC Breakfast always seems quite 'warm' whenever I see it, you can't get more warm than an orange studio!

I give that purple sofa 2 months. If it's still there in December, then people are stranger than I thought and TV is dead.

Like all programmes it will change, subtle barely noticeable changes which will build up to make it look very different in a few months. No programme gets it right on day 1. Personally I don't think the purple is a problem (as I said earlier in the thread, it's nice not to have a yellow/orange/red colour scheme for once) it's the sterility of the studio, but that will change given enough time

To suggest that a lot of them were watching 'illegally', you've got a very low opinion of the GMTV audience!

BARB do cover a representative sample of the population, if they were underestimating the audience of GMTV in the way you suggest then they are for all TV programmes. However there are a lot more down-market programmes than GMTV was which get higher audiences!

And of course I'd suggest that advertisers wouldn't be interested in the audience you seem to suggest its 'core' was therefore maybe no point in counting them at all...

They need to increase the font size of the autocue - Adrian Chiles squinting at it all the time.

Kate Garraway hasn't got a clue... on Monday she calls Olly Murs Olly MUIRS , then this morning, calls Billy Connolly's wife Pamela Anderson (twice, although on the first occasion she corrected herself).
