I don't understand why Daybreak can't adapt to a similar style

Why not have the lighting deep purple when it's dark, and have it transitioning to yellow as it get's light?

Because whilst that looks good, it is depressing in the morning which is why they put the blinds down and make the window bright yellow. If it was an evening show they wouldn't go to such lengths to cover up the darkness.

The One show seems to cope with dark evenings without it looking depressing

Anything but those custard rollerblinds please. Even some slighty opaque blind that they could light with all those LED's

But as Badger264 pointed out, for an evening show darkness doesn't matter. Of a morning, people want something bright to wake up to.

Hardly the most articulate of posts but I hope you understand what I mean!

yes naturally they have to increase the lighting as well because all of the set is lit it's a daytime show so the lighting is changed appropriately unfortunately this makes the darkness outside worse hence the blinds.

Personally I think they really need to alter their main presentation area/position. Assuming that they resolve the 'dark mornings' issue they will still have the washed out, blue looking backdrop because of the sun rising behind them.

Repeat The One Show at 7am whilst its dark outside and even though its identical it will become a lot more depressing. Everyone likes going to bed when its dark & raining outside, but noone likes getting up when its dark & raining outside. It's the same kind of principle.

If they took the emphasis off St Pauls and presented from the left rather than the right, they won't get the washed out blue look. But if they did that they'd be looking out on to trees and that building which is in the centre of the This Morning window so they can't win.

The One Show manages to look good in darkness because their backdrop is predominantly two or three buildings very close to the studio (relatively speaking), all owned by the BBC, which can be lit. The One Show install lighting on top of the White City (aka White City 1) and Media Center buildings (to light each other and the Broadcast Centre) and also have a lamp wheeled out daily to light the trees, for the shows that are shot during darkness, and then remove it for the summer months.

This means that the backdrop is actually not as dark as people might assume, and because there is a well lit backdrop, the windows don't cause anywhere near as many reflection issues as you would have if the backdrop was unlit and a black hole.

Daybreak has a skyline view where most of the buildings in the back of shot are much further away, and ITV can't light them (apart from St Pauls?) They have no real control over the lighting of their backdrop - and thus it is much darker and duller in the early mornings.

To coincide with Daybreak's 1st year anniversary, they will be broadcasting from Australia. Whether this involves the whole show coming from Australia or just a few links I'm not sure -could someone clear this up please?

But if the whole show is coming from Australia, perhaps this gives them time to sort out the set changes?

Ooh, that reminds me when Good Morning Britain went to Australia and it became G'Day Britain or something like that.

Yeah I was reminded of that too. It was for Australia's bi-centenary - although in reality it was because the TV-am strike was still on and there were crews in Australia who could produce the show.

Breakfast did something similar a few years ago - presenting the show from the Neighbours set (obviously before the move to Channel 5)

And also time to watch Sunrise so they can see how its done!

Just looking at a few descriptions for next week it appears they have booked a few guests on so its unlikely the entire show will be coming from there. They'll probably just send Anna out or someone like that. Why Australia anyway?

I agree they'll probably send out someone to Australia during the course of the week.

Also yesterday for Bank Holiday Monday Daybreak attracted another dire rating of 400,000 with an even lower share of 11.4% despite being broadcast an hour later between 7 and 8.30 am. However, BBC Breakfast was also well down attracting 1.2 million viewers in comparison to Lorraine's 900,000 average.

However, it is interesting that on the first anniversary of the show Kate Garraway and Dan Lobb will be presenting with the programme on the 6th September. This could be due to both Adrian and Christine being unavailible to present. I don't know if that has anything to do with the broadcasting from Australia.
