I agree about the X Factor, I thought that if Dermot had got the US job, that Christine could have been one of the front runners for the UK version or if anything replicated the US version by having 2 hosts(before Nicole moving to be a judge of course). Not sure she would have been able to remain as Daybreak presenter or had to reduce to a couple of days a week, considering the X Factor would be quite a big commitment - seemingly one of the reasons Holly couldn't accommodate The Xtra Factor alongside her This Morning commitments.
X Factor is both Saturday and Sunday during the live shows, and then any weekday rehersals/promotion/preperation. Probably couldn't do more than two days a week of another show if doing X Factor and wanting 2 days off a week. Plus lots of time off would be needed for the auditions and judges houses
So certainly explains why Holly left Xtra Factor - unless she wanted to work 7 days a week, she couldn't be the main female presenter of This Morning and do Xtra Factor
I was going to literally put exactly what you've just put near enough word for word in my post that you've quoted, but thought my post was getting a bit long so thought it best not.

Yeah Holly only lasted one series IIRC doing both this Morning and Xtra Factor together. It migh seem like it's a fairly easy job, just 2 days, but It's a much bigger commitment I imagine with all the rehearsals. Yeah and like you say judges houses too - Holly had to miss the first two weeks off the relauched This Morning, when she first started and Daybreak is the same in terms of when it's on ect, but would be even worse than This Morning, becuase of the early start. Although Holly did have Dancing on Ice aswell after Christmas on top of all that.
Talking of which, when Holly had to have a show or two off, due to her pregnancy in the last series it was rumoured that Christine would cover for her. In the end IIRC it was Coleen Nolan, but it would have been a good idea to have Christine. Although she's a really experience and competent presenter, she hasn't done that much reality/big shiny floor type shows and it would have given her some more experience to it. Also seeing as she would have always only been covering for Holly Awell it would have provided a chance to test the waters as to how the audience react to her, instead of making a big hurrah about her becoming a new host on say X Factor and then like Daybreak, getting slated by the press and then being tied to a whole series. If she was well received by the public/press then they could have risked letting her present their biggest show and if she got bad press etc, then there'd know she probably wasn't the best presenter for the XF.
Maybe its just me but I could see Christine judging Britain's Got Talent before hosting X Factor. I can't see X Factor ever having another female host and if they do it will be Holly Willoughby, which wouldn't be such a bad idea with Christine taking up Holly's duties on Dancing on Ice. I just can't see Christine as a sole leading presenter on a big show. She is a really good presenter but I don't think shes got the presence to pull off a massive show on her own.
I'd also hazard a guess that Steve Jones was due to present UK X Factor if Dermot went to America.
Well seeing as Ant & Dec are virtually going to be on a golden handcuff's deal till about 2030, I can't see them leaving BGT anytime soon. So don't think she'd realistically be able to do BGT anytime soon. You say you don't think Christine has got the presence to pull off a massive show on her own, but I think it's more the fact Holly doing DOI for quite a few years now, has gained the experience to present X Factor as I'd say it's quite a lot more high profile. Before presenting something like The X Factor I think she'd need to do what Holly's done and present a somewhat "smaller" show, still quite big, but not quite in the league of The XF.
I know I'll get slated for this but I think if the wan't to get their repuation on Daybreak up, I think it would be a good idea for both Adrian and Christine to present a primetime show/series together, but instead of making a big deal over who's presenting it like they did Daybreak and then got so much negative press, making as little deal as possible about them presenting it - make the show the main focus. I think one of the main reasons that Daybreak hasn't done too great is the fact that by making such a big deal about them presenting it, they highten the expecation only for it to inevitably go pair shaped, perhaps not ITV's fault, more the press.
