I agree that these last 2 thread pages have been rather painful! Why all this speculation about who will take over A&C? Since when are they leaving? Furthermore, I don't think its been a tactical move to mix up the pairings, I just think that its happened this way as people have days off. If Adrian is off, put Dan on the sofa, if Christine is off, put Kate on. I don't think Daybreak have an ulterior motive and are trialling new pairings; which seems to be the general theme developing on this thread.

But you have to agree that Adrian and Christine's chemistry that made them so popular on The One Show hasn't transferred really to Daybreak - it seems much more awkward and forced.

I don't agree at all. Having been an avid fan of The One Show during Adrian and Christine's 'reign' (I still watch TOS at least 3 times a week) I think their chemistry is still very much alive and at the forefront of much of Daybreak's items. I enjoy watching the pair, and when the format allows time for banter I feel they get on famously - something which is most definitely transferred to my screen as being rather natural!

Aswell as this, I also believe that Kate and Adrian have a good chemistry too - however it is no more credible than that of Adrian and Christine.

I don't think the chemistry of the presenters is Daybreak's problem; but rather the poor format.

(I hope you don't think i'm trying to invalidate you're opinion, i'm just giving mine Smile)

To try and draw a line under the presenter talk, Adrian & Christine are staying and will continue to be the faces of Daybreak, but there will obviously be less emphasis on The One Show chemistry. Neither have quit, and according to the reports in the papers ITV can't afford to sack them. Dan & Kate are very much main presenters and not just sport and entertainment editor respectively and fill in very well, leading to 4 possible combinations that all work just as well. Theres no point speculating, it is what it is.

The presenters aren't the problem, the format is and the person responsible is leaving/has been pushed/has been sacked. With 'confirmed' set changes and a new editor joining in the new year, its obvious that there is going to be a revamp of sorts, meaning they're now back in the exact same position they were at this time last year. As far as the set and windows goes, I suggested it in another thread to swap studios with Loose Women and have Daybreak & Lorraine in the same place with a more 'winter friendly' set, and one of their biggest problems is fixed instantly.

I disagree that the windows are one of their biggest problems. The solutions they came up with last winter weren't great, but were hardly disatrous and I feel that their solutions can only improve this year with the proposed set changes and experience gained from winter 2010-11. Moving studios would defeat the object of having the view altogether, a vista that IMO is rather an attraction when the weather is fine. Put in perspective to the other challenges facing Daybreak, the dark backdrop is minor.

I agree that it is really nice and it was a good idea to try it but it would be better served on a programme where it can be used for every show all year round. Even now in the summer they can't use it properly because of the position of the sun at that time of day and we end up with the washed out blue appearance. Having a view doesn't really add anything and it would differentiate 'new' Daybreak from 'old' Daybreak.

Last years solutions weren't great. It effectively gave them two different studios for the same show, which whilst in itself is a minor issue, it shows that ITV are awful at branding.

To suggest that the show should move into the cramped Lorraine and Loose Women studio is silly. Remember, ITV kitted out a brand new gallery with HD equiptment - Daybreak won't move out of their current studio anytime soon IMO. The winter view did come across very cold but they did sort it out with the blinds, and I think if they were a soft lilac/purple colour, they'd have looked great - the yellow is very brash.

However the blind idea is very functional, NBC's Today Show in America has the same idea - they have a blind which is up at the beginning of the programme when its dark, and also to talk about serious news (they have a street level studio, crowds with banners isn't a great background shot when the anchor is talking about politics, deaths etc) but once 7:30 comes, they lower the blind for the street level view.

They won't swap over, I'm just suggesting that they do. Studio 3 is also bigger than both 5 and 7 so they're hardly cramped.

If they're desperate for a view they could incorporate a screen in to act as a window and use a "live" video view (similar to regional news) of a better area that is lit well in the dark. It would be less of a liability, because for the main sofa area, other than remove the laminate floor wall there isn't really much they can do in terms of sets so the sofa part will still look the same.

Loose Women could get far better use of the view due to being on midday when it will always be light outside and they'll be out of the suns path so they won't need to adjust the windows that much.

Having a HD studio is good, but HD isn't really catching on in the UK so it isn't that much of an issue. Besides, all of the studios at London Studios will be converted to HD sooner or later anyway.

It is indeed, ITV1 HD regularly gets about 1 million viewers in the BARB ratings, an average rating of a popular digital channel.

The top 10 shows for w/c June 27th in hundred thousands:

1 SCOTT & BAILEY (SUN 2102) 727
2 CORONATION STREET (THU 2031) 640
3 CORONATION STREET (MON 2029) 607
4 CORONATION STREET (MON 1932) 554
5 CORONATION STREET (FRI 2030) 550
6 CORONATION STREET (FRI 1932) 509
7 EMMERDALE (THU 1901) 494
8 EMMERDALE (THU 2000) 493
9 EMMERDALE (TUE 1901) 401
10 EMMERDALE (FRI 1901) 351

My point was that HD isn't as big as TV execs think because there is a lot of confusion around it and how to get it. The figures for HD channels are disproportionate to their SD counterparts. Just 5-10% of the overall audience watched on the HD channel (according to figures above); however it was predicted that half of households had HD during last years world cup, so that figure will be greater now.

I would not like it if Daybreak decided to go from HD to SD, that would be a bad decision.

It's a badly-thought out plan, Badger264.
