Kate Thornton is not returning to Loose Women in September then, she was tipped to host Daybreak with Eamonn Holmes before Adrian and Christine's move to ITV so I wonder if she will be part of a new-look Daybreak in September???

I think if Adrian and Christine are replaced they'll be replaced by news presenters, not someone like Kate Thornton, who is just another Christine in many ways - no real experience of anchoring a news programme.

If Nina Hossain weren't pregnant (of course many congratulations to her that she is) I'd have put my money on her to be a replacement for Christine, she presented GMTV with Lorraine for a week in 2010 and also is a member of the ITV News team. As for who'd replace Adrian, I'm not sure - Dan's popular but would he really fit the bill?

I would think Kate would be promoted to her old position
As for Adrian: Eamonn Holmes, Matt Teale, Dermot Murnaghan, Dan Lobb... many possibilities but can they get there hands on them?

I'd like to see the Kate/Eamonn Combo

I'm not sure Eamonn would go back to an ITV morning programme, wasn't he heavily rumoured to be Daybreak's presenter before Adrian was scooped? I think he felt a little 'played' by ITV execs, and this was noted in the many digs he made on Sunrise in the run up to Daybreak's launch, really dismissing it from the very start.

I was thinking the exact same when I heard about her axing from Loose Women. I don't know if she would be part of a new-look Daybreak. As the latest rumours have suggested executives were thinking of bringing in news presenters as possible replacements for Adrian and Christine. It is important to note that their contracts for presenting Daybreak run until the summer of 2013 so if they were axed it would be quite suprising given the stories about the massive cost of compensation for both presenters as previously discussed on the forum.

In relation to Eamonn Holmes I agree with Joshua I think it is highly unlikely that he would return to front ITV Breakfast's show. He has previously said he is very happy in his position presenting Sky News Sunrise. Although with the annexation of ITV Breafast Limited by ITV Studios both Daybreak and This Morning operate within the same production company. It could potentially make any transfer much more easier in the future.

There is a possibility that Adrian and Christine might stay on Daybreak over the next year however they will probably present much less with each other. As in recent months it will probably be a Dan and Christine duo along with Adrian and Kate.

Eamonn would come back if the money was right. He was always slagging off GMTV yet seemed bitter he wasn't picked to return. A name isn't often enough for this kind of programme but I do think viewers would come back if Eamonn returned to ITV Breakfast and they made the show a little more like Sunrise.

I don't think they'll actually bring anyone in though and I can't see anyone leaving, they'll just continue what they're doing now which is mixing up the main 4 (its safe to say Dan & Kate are now two main presenters rather than relief).

One move they're completely overlooking but I think needs doing is moving Lorraine back into the main studio. Its nice to have her own studio, but I'm not sure a separate show at that time really works and doesn't really have any benefits.

Daybreak boss Rumsey to step down

Ian Rumsey will step down as editor of Daybreak at the end of 2011 after little more than a year in the post.

Rumsey was named GMTV editor in May 2010 and oversaw the morning show’s transformation into Daybreak in September.

He said the decision to leave was “tough”, but the time was right to take on a “different challenge” in the New Year.

What's with the random capital 's'?

Anyway, I can't. GMTV saw countless new editors and retained the same dull format, then GMTV rebranded as Daybreak and 10 months on we get GMTV in another guise.

Thanks Cylon6 for that information.

This is a very significant development as the editor of Daybreak is preparing to step down at the end of the year. It will be intereseting to see who will replace Rumsey as editor maybe Paul Connolly the Deputy Editor will take over or it could be overseen by one of the ITV Studios executives. Although is this an indication that finally something will be done in terms of revamping the content of the programme i.e. more focus on news related and agenda setting news that we have kept talking about for months.

It is also interesting the timing of Rumsey's stepping down leaving the end of the year does that mean a significant revamp may take longer to implement. I keep thinking of March 2012, when BBC Breakfast moves to Salford. Surely, there has to be some connection between those two dates.

So could all of this mean the big revamp is around the corner?
