Significant set changes coming

Will it be more NBC Today or a reshuffle of the current set?

How about content wise - more news.

Is this planned set to debut in September?

Significant set changes coming

There was me going to say this thread has been annoying me lately with all the constant speculation of Daybreak's downfall and Adrian leaving/this person leaving/joining etc. and then you go and give us this info.... the speculation will last for months on here no doubt! Laughing I didn't think we'd see any revamp soon considering either you or one of the other insiders on here said, albeit quite a while ago, they weren't planning any changes.

Like everyone else I imagine it'll be September? - TV shows do like a September relaunch!

Will there be any editorial or presenter changes do you know?

I know we haven't seen what the changes will be yet and it's far to early to say, but I wouldn't be surprised if the relaunch is pretty sucessful - like TVAM/GMTV changes were made before they became successful. I hope they don't revert to back to GMTV too much, because on the whole I found that very dated towards the end and although it has it's problems at the moment, I much prefer Daybreak.

They can only blame the set up to a point, and it's a pretty lame excuse. What's the saying? Like putting lipstick on a pig.

What they need to look at, and should have done months ago, is CONTENT. That is key.

Talk, if you will, about presenters, because I'm bored of the discussion of Daybreak, especially Christine and Adrian, which have proved to be the greatest waste of money for ITV. No chemistry whatsoever, and probably as bad as Ant and Dec, IMO.

Well presenter wise it's all down to personal taste. I like Adrian & Christine, some may not. Not sure what Ant & Dec have got to do with it really - you may not like them, but they are 2 of the most popular presenters on TV... they haven't won 10 NTA'S for nothing. Wink

Christine has no real talent, which is the case for most presenters of today, unfortunately. They are never picked on merit, never because they are the most capable, suitable person for the job. Kate Garraway has shown she is 1000x better than Christine, but was lumbered with the insulting Entertainment Editor job. She is better than that.

As well, Helen Fospero proved herself on GMTV, but Tasmin got the job. She is very substandard, but typical ITV.

As for the One Show, the show hasn't changed much, and the chemistry present between Christine and Adrian on TOS hasn't transferred to Daybreak. Kate works better with Adrian.

I have yet to see the agenda-setting journalism that Daybreak promised on day one. I could count on my hand the amount of times John Stapleton has been on the programme. They must know that news is lacking, but do nothing about it. I really think this programme needs new management and editors, because they clearly don't know what their viewers want.

Christine was picked over Kate because they wanted to escape the GMTV image, so having her as main presenter would have made all of the changes redundant. The reason for her new job was probably preparing for the situation they are in. Helen was originally in the frame for Christine's job whilst her agent was playing The Price Is Right, and was reported to be staying on until the last minute. I bet whoever made the decision to hire Tasmin over Helen is now kicking themselves, especially when those photos were leaked just before the Daybreak launch.

I hope they use Adrian & Kate more, and indeed Dan & Christine even if they go back to splitting the week. They should definitely try more agenda setting journalism because when their journalism is very strong when they make the effort. They could even tuck it away from 6-7am when noone is watching, but it would still make the national news all day just like GMTV used to and help build the reputation. They have a good opportunity to correct last years mistakes and I hope they use it properly. Any relaunches wont improve on the 800,000 average viewers in the short term but even if the ratings don't improve but that average of 800,000 enjoy the show more (which clearly they aren't) then that's better than nothing.

I'm just interested to the scale of the revamp. Will it just be a new set and a tweaked format or will it be on a bigger scale?

This thread has been going round in circles since September.

Ok... Picture this:
-The opening titles play,
-Just as the title card fades away a camera softly makes it way coming from the studio doors and weaves its way through the set until it stops next to the news desk,
-The presenters are stood at the bottom of the steps to the sofa area,
-They then take it in turns to read the days headlines,
-A short Daybreak sting appears on screen,
-When the sting fades away the presenters are just sitting down ready to add to the headlines.

I think that this could work well just to add a bit more 'agenda setting' to the show.

You've basically described how Daybreak was at launch. The titles played, and the Daybreak logo hung on the screen as they faded to the studio, where there was a pan towards the presenters on the sofa. They then read out the headlines, and what was coming up together, before a sting. Not exactly how you said it, but almost. Therefore, Daybreak has used this idea, but they've gone and ditched it.

Also, the best thing would be to not have 1000000 Daybreak schedule ideas, as we had that in GMTV thread, which meant there was little presentation discussion, just people's silly scheduling fantasies.

Not sure if anyone's noticed (didn't spot anything in the last few pages) or cares, but ITV1 breakbumpers are now running during Daybreak and Lorraine.

In my eyes, Daybreak has gotten progressively worse since launch. At the start, everything was interesting, new, and clean looking - there were flaws to iron out as with any program but it definitely pleasant and interesting to watch. Look at this picture from the launch of Daybreak, the studio looks fabulous, image courtesy of TV Live:

http://www.tv-live.org.uk/wb/media/daybreak/71.jpg

At the moment the program is just an totally unwatchable for me. Last time I switched on to Daybreak, the interviews took far too long, there was far too many breaks in between each section, and not one bit of it was interesting to listen to - and Tasmin Lucia Khan is really pretty poor, she's improved very little over the last few months. The studio now looks vile with the ugly red sofa which doesn't match with the studio, and blocks a lot of the London view (which is the reason they moved into Studio 7) and could now easily be mistaken for a printed backdrop in most shots.

These 'significant set changes' should be a step in the right direction and these questionnaires they have been doing suggests they plan to change the format too. This should be good but will it be enough to win viewers back?

I think we should just be grateful to anoilyrag for his insider knowledge and not keep pestering him for more!! The word 'significant' tells you there will be a pretty substantial revamp of some description

Daybreak with Kate and Adrian was very watchable today, their chemistry is blossoming somewhat. Even Adrian seems chirpier!
