They could move back to having a Newshour... They could easily justify changing the EPG slots for that. It would serve people who are up at that time of the morning better. They've still got John anyway, they just need a suitable female presenter (I.e. not Tasmin).

Maybe a 'Newshour' would serve to poach some viewers from the BBC? They will no doubt have an 'Olympics Breakfast' next year which hard-news-watchers might switch away from, ITV could make their move then?

I think Tasmin would do perfectly for a proposed Newshour with John Stapleton. I've however, always thought John and Christine could make a good combination.

I totally agree wih SNT Three, EdExcel and Badger 264 I think a Newshour would be a step in the right direction following months of bad press and criticism. As EdExcel quite rightly says Tasmin would do perfectly as a main presenter. I also think that John Stapleton and Christine could make a good partnership with his wealth of experience. I also think Kate Garraway would be good but also Grainne Seoige. She had a lot of experience presenting Sky News in both the UK and Ireland.

In the newshour they can get the main presenters to introduce the main headlines at the TOTH then have an extended Newspaper review 'In the Mix' in more depth and detail.

In terms of ratings, a newshour from 6-7am which would be assesed seperately might mean that Daybreak's average viewing figures could rise above the 700,000 / 800,000 threshold between 7am and 8.30.

Not Daybreak as such, but still the breakfast franchise; Next Saturday House Gift is scheduled at 8.25am according to the Sunday Times, with May The Best House Win at 8.25am on Sunday

Interesting to see how Daybreak handles the developing breaking news story about Osama Bin Laden being killed. Or will they default to ITN for the entire rolling coverage?

I watched Daybreak's coverage and was pleasantly surprised at the strong focus on the main news story that Osama Bin Laden has been killed with the exemption of three items from the Royal Wedding. I also thought Adrian presented much better with Kate and they both handled the story really well. The expert panel provided very good coverage as well as the use of ITV News correspondents in the United States. It proves that agenda setting news can feature more prominently on the programme.

I must say, I was surprised by Daybreak's coverage. They featured it as their main story, and when they weren't talking about it, they gave a summary of the story between items. It shows that whilst Daybreak can do this kind of thing, it doesn't tend to happen unless it is a major story.

The Breaking News ticker really is awful though! When a two tier name strap came up, it gets pushed down, so you can see the top of the scrolling text, but can't read it.

I thought today Daybreak handled the story quite well, but obviously there are areas of improvements, such as
- The Breaking News Ticker as Critique has stated is rather awful. They need to embed it within the main graphics, like TV Mocks has done in this video (http://www.youtube.com/user/tvmocks?blend=7&ob=5#p/u/0/sD7CZVD8DP4). Here, the breaking news ticker could be connected to the clock and might be more effective as a news flipper, than a ticker.
- Also, it just seemed to me that Daybreak should have led with Osama Bin Laden and dropped everything else. Juxtaposing the Royal Wedding with the death of Osama Bin Laden; shows that Daybreak doesn't understand how to lead with a news story. This clearly is not the agenda setting news that Daybreak promised on the 6th September.

Adrian and Kate did very well today however. Days like this though, they should really be using John Stapleton - someone with a wealth of experience.

So in your world, to show that they are capable of leading with a major news story, they shouldn't just lead, but drop everything else completely. You would find Daybreak viewers switching off after a while.

The sofa comment is rubbish. If it had been a normal weekday, Breakfast would have been from a sofa as well!

Daybreak did fine this morning, and ironic this news coming the day after discussing whether Daybreak should have a newshour and more emphasis on news, proving our point that they clearly are capable of it, they'd just prefer to have pointless features.

I disagree with dropping all other items. The news is big, but I don't think any story other than those of national importance (ie Friday's Royal wedding) is important enough for all other news or features to be dropped. Slightly contradicting what I keep on saying, Daybreak does need more news but it is a magazine style programme, not a rolling news channel.

I must say; Daybreak handled Osama's death really well. I was expecting it to be bitty and not flow as well, but I was wrong.

Plus the advantage of having a newshour is that the features of it could then be used in the other news bulletins, (ie. David Cameron “David Cameron told daybreak this morning....”) advertising the earlier hour and daybreak have the team to do it theirs plenty of correspondents who we sometimes maybe see once a week and also I’ve seen that 6 o’clock hour and their is nothing worth getting up for if their was hard news until 7 and then a mix of news from 7 onwards it offers what breakfast does but in my digestible chunks and many people would be able to see both news and features before going out into work. Where-as on breakfast they only see the hard news.

As for anchors Tasmin, I think would be perfect, I remember at the start of daybreak she received a lot of criticism but she has improved immensely and also has the experience of covering international, sport and entertainment news and of course could continue to stay on to anchor the news. John would be the obvious choice but Dan Lobb can be serious when needed and Adrian has experience covering the big issues as he did excellently this morning. Richard Gaitford would also be a good choice.

Could I just add my voice to those praising this mornings coverage , I watched from 7-8 and the panel of experts worked well , the strap across the botttom and crossing straight to Tasmin who anchored a wounderful summary o the news from all perspectives before handing back to Adrian and Kate who did very well.
