There is a big difference between school holidays and Bank Holidays. This Easter was the first time Daybreak has aired on a Bank Holiday since it started, besides Christmas.

Quick question, and apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere on this thread as not read it all, but did Daybreak have the regional opt outs on the Bank Holidays? I don't thinK GMTV used to.

I didn't think GMTV had any local opt outs on Bank Holidays either and thought over christmas on Daybreak they didn't. But they did this Monday although Anglia had a different news & weather presenter.

Just watching a live stream of Sunrise this morning, and to be honest - its brilliant.
Its exactly what you need this morning and the set is perfect. They manage to get the
balance between news and light fluffy stuff right. Daybreak should like to this if they
are planning a revamp in September.

Just had Calendar rather than Granada News this morning.
Just the North West affected or the whole of ITV North?

When looking at the clips on that website most appear to be royal wedding, there are a couple of other showbiz ones such as Justin Bieber in Australia too. Has daybreak just got the wrong mix as they don't have the equivalent of a news hour, and because their entertainment news & interviews can't air after 08:30?

Watching this morning, they had a few presenters who are in town to cover for the royal wedding. Noticeably they had Meridith Viera talking to Steve, and they had Amanda Byram & some American guy who it was said will be hosting the coverage for Discovery TLC from the daybreak studio.

When Daybreak first started I feel it did try to copy American/Australian breakfast shows but ITV just didn't really understand the format very well and it didn't translate well. I think NBC's The Today Show is where ITV should be aiming, perhaps it wouldn't be unrealistic to get ITN and NBC (who have a UK base at ITN) involved in some form of revamp. At the minute, Daybreak does just feel like an extended The One Show with added news updates every now and then. I watched from 7.40am until 8am yesterday and didn't feel like I'd learnt a thing other than what time it is and the weather, and that's their main problem.

History shows that as one breakfast show begins to fail, the other takes off, and with the BBC moving to Salford next year, BBC Breakfast can either go one way or the other, and there has never been a more critical time for ITV to have their breakfast show in a strong position, at least editorially. If the BBC move and the show becomes weaker, people are going to try Daybreak. If Daybreak is still in its sorry mess then the viewers will just go back to the BBC.

So, Daybreak got 400,000 yesterday, Breakfast got 1.1 Million, Lorraine got 1 Million at 8:30. That just shows how people can't be bothered to watch Daybreak, and how the ratings shoot up for Lorraine. It'll be interesting to see what the ratings are like now that we're out of the Easter holidays.

We're not out of the Easter Holidays, not yet. We've got at least a week to go yet.

A lot of schools here in the North West are in this week - new timetable which means the 'spring break' is always at the beginning of April regardless of where Easter is. Not sure if that's the same nationwide but it's meant due to the bank holidays the schools are in for only 6 days in April.

Well most Schools here in Wirral in the North West our still off this week Laughing

I knew someone would mention the Wirral! Laughing My cousin's kids I know are off this week because they live on The Wirral but Liverpool are definitely in. I've been travelling around the Midlands today and noticed a few schools are in judging by the kids in the playground!

The relevance of this to ratings however is probably none.

And I think this is Steve's report for Daybreak http://www.itv.com/daybreak/royal-wedding/america-does-the-royal-wedding/

I watched this morning when they spent 2 minutes showing the sport stand-in Gavin bouncing past London landmarks on a Union Jack spacehopper. Completely pointless and utterly unfunny (though you felt they probably found it hilarious in the Daybreak office). And the bosses must wonder why the ratings hardly budge.

Where's the 'agenda-setting' news that was promised guys?

Must say I was rather impressed with the coverage from 8am.

The graphics looked much better in line with the DOG, and LIVE bug in the top-left. Titles at 8am looked good too.

It was a great show this morning, but this public interest, big happy story is what they do well.
The graphics were very nice, they used the ITV coverage straps, but they appeared as though they were made with daybreak in mind fitting with the yellow, purple, same lines as the clock, with the clock above the straps, but confetti animation on top of the clock. They also created special titles for today, shame they couldn't for Christmas.

With the set up, they could have easily kept daybreak going until 10, and have Julie & Phil join them & then take over with the rest of the coverage.
