I think the main problem with Adrian is, he appeals more to men, with his laddish humour.

I just see this as another one of them nonsense "Daybreak to be axed within about a week of being on/Adrian or Christine quiting" type stories.

Quote:
A source told the Mirror: “A number of big changes are being considered now because the ratings are simply not good enough.

Yet we have it on good authority from insiders on this thread that nothings going to happen at least this side of September.

Adrian & Christine aren't going anywhere soon IMO, if their on the highly paid saleries that have been reported, ITV aren't just going to let Christine do a few 'Simply Red' type specials a year(plus the gameshow she's doing) and Adrian, whilst his got the football plus his Sunday night show, both their main 3 - 5 day a week job is Daybreak.

ITV backs Daybreak's Chiles

ITV has denied that it is planning to drop presenter Adrian Chiles from flagship breakfast show Daybreak.

The presenter was to be potentially given the chop as part of a major reshuffle for the programme, according to reports.

But an ITV spokesperson said the channel was “committed” to Chiles and co-host Christine Bleakley in their roles at the helm of Daybreak.

The show has recorded a “steady growth” in viewers since January to reach an average of 800,000, according to the spokesperson.

“Share of viewing is up for our core audience of housewives with children plus younger viewers contributing to a strong overall daytime schedule for ITV1,” said an ITV spokesperson.

“March was our most successful month since launch and despite the normal change to viewing patterns over holiday periods such as the Easter break, audiences have remained robust with share of viewing unaltered and increasing levels of positive feedback from viewers.”

What these tabloid stories boil down to are a few reporters have accounts with Gallifrey Base and have been looking at the AI figures that get published.

I saw this article yesterday along with today's stories about Adrian Chiles potentially being axed. As newsatten quite rightly said it is the usual media hype / nonsense that get's printed every few months. For example the Daily Mail's article is somewhat old news. We already know Daybreak's AI figures average between 62 and 67 on a daily basis. As Badger rightly said the problem is Daybreak's identity it doesn't know what it wants to be. Even at the launch despite the problems with the studio there was a clear focus to produce upmarket breakfast programming with a strong emphasis on news stories that set the day's agenda. However, due to the massive change which caused viewing figures to decline they simply reverted back to the lightweight format that led to GMTV's demise.

I think it highly unlikely that there will be any major changes until the autumn I doubt Adrian will get the axe before then. The only positive is that all this media attention might mean more people start tuning into Daybreak again just like what hapenned in November and December. It could mean that the average audience figures might increase above the 700,000 or 800,000 mark?

Also it was really good to see John Stapleton this morning, I never really rated him but I think if he presented with Christine that could be a good partnership. Something tell's me they would have good chemistry together along with his wealth of experience could be a good thing for the programme.

Even insiders with authority may not be fully across decisions taken at a very senior level. Well not unless Peter Fincham and Alison Sharman are posting here...

It was also a number of weeks ago, so things may have changed.

Funilly enough, I think even the lowest level employees would know if AC is getting sacked "within weeks" according to the Daily Mirror story.

Bit late, did anyone (particularly in the Northern Regions) have a cock up at the 7.15 regional bulletin yesterday?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz9nubQKGII - Tyne Tees/Border didn't opt back for a good 30 seconds after the bulletin had finished... First real cock up i've seen...

They always seem to opt to TT/B a second or two too late and at the end the end of the bulletin, Sarah Kelly always says 'bye' and remains on screen for 4-5 seconds after....
