Yesterday I reverted to putting Daybreak on as I couldn't cope with the music Scott Mills was playing yesterday morning (must be getting old!) and was in amazement of the weather presenter they had one... it was like watching Cbeebies weather. Telling me I may not like the rain but my plants need them and I may get scared by thunder but there was nothing to worry about, followed be a strange pause.

Were do they get these people from?!?!

A relief weather presenter who has been doing weather off and on on ITV for about 20 years

If you are going to criticise Daybreak, this is probably not the right target.

Why should I not choose this part of Daybreak? I have listened to the radio in the mornings for the best part of seven years while getting ready for work. Yesterday, after being awoken by some song that I felt was too much for me I turned it off and turned the TV on, didn't bother to change the channel. In the 15/20 minutes I had the TV on I saw a weather clip as descried above.

Did I decide this morning that actually Daybreak was a better option than the radio, no. Will I tune in again, doubt it. When I next feel I can't listen to the radio in the morning and I turn the TV one and find it is on ITV will I change channel - probably.

So you're basing the entire show on the weather item?

Fred Talbot is actually a well respected weatherman; I enjoy his warm presenting attitude on Granada Reports and am thrilled when he gets the chance to present nationally; if only for a week or so.

Early-to-mid 90s viewers of This Morning in its Richard & Judy heyday will remember him as the weather-map-man on the Albert Dock before the shows move to London.

Another Fred fan here too- he simply cheers me up when he's on screen. He might come across as patronising but he comes across as very friendly and describes the weather how you'd describe it to other people, he doesn't use all of the technical terms. His style wouldn't be suited to serious news, but for Daybreak and Granada Reports he does the job well and is differentiated from the rest of the weather clones.

But I'm not convinced a woman would be able to get away with his style without being called useless. Lucy and Kirsty are good, but its nice to have a change every now and again. The reaction to him online has been fairly positive too, and Daybreak like using their Facebook and Twitter accounts to gauge opinion.

Not a fan. Maybe it's a regional bias thing/affiliation. I don't remember him ever being so patronising on This Morning but maybe he was more suited to the more 'something silly at the end of the show' real weather map on the Albert Dock. Don't think his style is my cup of tea, very CRINGEWORTHY. 'We NEEEEEED the rain for our gardens' repeated about 3-4 times. Fred, do one!

Just adding on to the part about This Morning, I do wonder whether Granada will replicate the floating map at Salford Quays when they move there. Wasted opportunity if not.

OR clever move if not. That gimmick, and it IS a gimmick is so 1990's it hurts.

Well seeing as it was at the Albert Dock in Liverpool and not Quay Street I doubt it very much.

I'm not suggesting it as a full time thing, just the odd day in summer months, most likely a Friday. It is gimmicky but everyone loves a bit of nostalgia!

The Albert Docks are at one end of the Manchester Ship Canal/River Mersey and Salford Quays at the other. Granada Reports is going there next year, not Quay Street.
