When might the ratings be released? I'm thinking with it being an early morning show, we may get them by late evening?
It'll be some time after 9.30am tomorrow - so unusually they'll have no idea how the first show performed until after the second show.
No complaints really about Daybreak at all - it's exactly what it needed to be and felt far more professional than the awful GMTV. Only a couple of moans - video walls are so 2000, whilst Kate Garraway is so GMTV. Have they only employed her so for five minutes every day they can remind viewers how bad GMTV was?
I think the programme started well. I have to say I quite liked the london skyline at 6.00 this morning with the silouette of the buildings, it made the sunrise all the more striking. I also though that there was colour in the studio in the dark too, I could see the windows behind the sofa all lit with a purple light reflecting upon them, would the intensity of the lights increase during the winter months?
The weather was a big issue for me, the first bulletin at 6.13 and then the second at 6.28 that is only 15 minutes between the two. Lucy deffinately said Daybreak too many times in her introduction can it not just be phrased as live cams as opposed to daybreak cams watching the daybreak?
John's report I felt was very dumbed down, give him the hard journalistic stories not the light frothy stuff, it was more like a report for the one show rather than a top news story.
I take it Cordelia will act as the understudy for the news presenting again, a job she is more than capable of doing, they should give it to her full time, Tamsin fluffed too many sentances for my liking.
What was the point of the five screens, not even Adrian knew, part of me thinks it may be better to do the news from there and be quite innovative with them rather than the desk, it would also solve the problem of the reflection.
I felt that the banter between Kate and Adrian and Christine was quite forced, i am not 100% if she likes them all that much, certainly having watched the preview online they all seemed to be in there own little camps, and why was Kate not there from the beginnig?
What is the point of the breakfast bar, the only time someone sat behind it was when Dan was writing his shopping list during the studio tour.
The regional news was also badly thought out. The only benefit i can see is that it saves money for itv with the production from ITN, as the same team produce the News at 5.30 and London Today early bulletins. I would either have 2 further bulletins a 7.45 and 8.15 or have them at 6.15, 7.15 and 8.15, although the timeings of the regional news on GMTV changed numerous times throughout its 17 year run, i believe they used to have 4 bulletins at 6.15, 6.45 7.30 and 8.30.
I thought it was very messy at the end having everyone who had been in the studio that morning piled on the sofa, it seemed like the closing moments of the last ever ri:se when everyone piled on top of each other.
When it came to Lorraine, why change a formula that ain't broke? I am glad they left that pretty much untouched, although I don't see the point of having a further regional opt at 9.00 for the weather, why not let Lucy and Kirsty do a national bulletin, they always used to manage it, I think it over complictes things to be honest, I can see a region missing the opt all together.
Overall I think there will still be work to be done on daybreak over the coming weeks and months, I don't think Breakfast will have anything to worry about for the time being.
two cock ups, the political editor calling Tony Blair the prime Minisiter (I've just given the prime Minister a cup of coffee) just before his interview and when Lorrane started the clock had stopped at 8:20, or wasn't working, whatever, they soon had it fixed again
Isn't it fine for ex prime ministers to be referred to as prime ministers, same with American presidents?
Talking of clocks, Lorraine's big wall clock was showing 8.20 after her opening titles, so it means the first part of her show was pre-recorded, maybe just the opening menu bit. Very strange, it's not like it couldn't have been done live surely?

According to Ofcom, a programme can be delayed by up to 15 minutes and still be described as 'live'.
Clocks in the studio are rather an inconvenience during those times.
I don't think it was all delayed as you see the clock later showing the correct time. I just thought it was a bit silly as it one of the things your eyes are drawn to as the camera pans around the studio.

Not really as in the UK once you have served as Prime Minister you are just back to being an ordinary person (or someone who cashes in on once being a Prime Minister)
Whereas in the US it is actually an American tradition to call old Presidents as a President.
Its down to cultural differences (another example being doing their dates different to the majority of the world i.e. 9/7/10 whereas we say 7/9/10)
To think a couple of months ago people on here were grumbling about 'Daybreak' sounding old-fashioned!
It works perfectly.
Apart from those silly coffee tables and a lack of texture (a nice rug on the floor would do wonders in this regard) I can't find any faults with the show. The window reflections and screen lines all add character in my opinion - take these details away and the studio environment would look too sterile and flat. Adrian and Christine do a great job of holding all the elements of the show together. So, it's a big thumbs up for Daybreak! (Just put a rug on the floor underneath the clock, please!)
