I disagree entirely, Pebble Mill Road was not in the least bit pleasing on the eye. I suspect this was part of the extended design of Pebble Mill too, that the audience and viewers were aware of what was going on inside and was a conscious decision, to design it the way it was to communicate with the people that would see it. So I don't think it was lazy set designers.

I think you're clouding your judgement with fond memories of your dear-departed Pebble Mill complex, Beep.

I agree that the view from the foyer was fairly uninteresting, but I don't think much of the indoor activities could be viewed from the road: there weren't many pedestrian passers-by with eyesight good enough to see that far without strong binoculars. Who were they communicating with, exactly, with this design?

The proposed studio wasn't constructed, which is why the foyer was originally used on a temporary basis, and then eventually kitted out with proper lighting and even given the unofficial name 'Studio C'.

It set-up may have initially been the result of bad planning, but the result looked like lazy set design and a cheap alternative.

It wasn't that far at all. It was about 30 meters, if you can't see that far you need glasses. The proposed second studio, C, that was never built was initially meant to go the the north of Studio A and wasn't constructed because they miscalculated the space requirements and would've meant the removal of a substation.

The title sequence seems a bit recycled to me - the music is almost a mash up of the 1993 GMTV and Good Morning with Anne and Nick themes, and several of the shots in the sequence are similar to shots in the Big Breakfast titles or bumpers (toast popping up, newspaper through the door).

Not that it isn't quite a nice sequence, mind you.

Yep, I thought that too. And someone asked in the thread earlier who wrote it. I doubt a lot of writing went into it.

What else would you have in a breakfast show sequence? Wink

Overall I'm very impressed - I liked it and it was certainly a big improvement on GMTV. Only a couple of things I would change-
1) I hate the 5 a day gimmick - get rid of that.
2) No need to lengthen the regional news but the last one being at 7:15 is too early - I'd want at least one more 2' bulletin at 7:45 if not a one at 8:15 too.
3) Seemed to be throwing over to the weather a bit much- I think one every half hour is sufficient when you also have the regional weather.
4) Daybreakers - I liked the segment to end on but I think the running through the three options is a waste of airtime - just select one and run with that at the end.
5) Studio - not sure if the news desk is necessary when you have those reflections - present it from the desk opposite and do away the separate news desk. I think they would have been better off retaining one the GMTV team to read the news too. Also, I've seen footage where there was a plant behind Adrian, small detail but put it back.

Small niggles for me. I liked it more than I was expecting. It also seemed much less commercial than GMTV - a big plus as I think GMTV had gone too far. I really hope it does well.

Changing things constantly à la GMTV is not the way to do things. That is part of the reason they lost their viewership. Graphics, studio and general structure of GMTV was changed within a few weeks, not to mention the lighting and music as part of the 2009 redesign.

Daybreak have had more than a week with this set for both the crew to get used to the lighting at the small hours of the morning, as well as the presenters to bond some form of relationship (which all appeared to be fake, cold and unfriendly) during rehearsals. (Yes, I do know it's early days, but it could have been a bit more polished. That is the point of rehearsals).

Ever heard of just calling them 'Headlines' at a quarter past and to the hour.

Perhaps with Daybreakers, they could pick one of the films and feature it at the end of the news bulletin. Also, if the news were to switch to the sports area, they'd have the added benefit of graphics in the background, instead of a rather drab view and very shiny window.

A little disappointed with the regional news; what was so wrong with the length of the bulletin before? Nice to see consistent, Daybreak graphics, but the weather graphics again used those annoying icons and again very vague as to where the rain will fall.

I quite enjoyed it, what annoyed me was the weather sponsorship after they showed the live views, then the weather, looks odd the presenter having to stop for the sponsorship, the continue
and the local news presenter(s) repeating the bit about weather and traffic news comming later, we know now locak news buletins work so just get on with it

the live views are very pretty now but come December we will have six lives views of pre dawn night time, and a reflection of the entire studio behind the presenter

Adrian looks like he's trying not to lean too far to the left and fall of the sofa, did the big buget not cover arm rests

and why do they keep leaning forwards, do they have stomach cramp, are they passing wind, or can the not read the autoque

the cool for school thing, parents have enough problems getting the kids dressed, fed and off to school without them showing off some expensive kids toy most families can't afford and causing some kids to have a paddy because they want one

two cock ups, the political editor calling Tony Blair the prime Minisiter (I've just given the prime Minister a cup of coffee) just before his interview and when Lorrane started the clock had stopped at 8:20, or wasn't working, whatever, they soon had it fixed again

One main niggle is that many of the pieces are only one sentence long, such as the correspondent introductions and all the regional news.

Adrian will use more words introducing Lucy than Lucy will actually say in her intro.

"Lucy is our weather women, what's in store in the weather today Lucy?"
"It's going to be a windy day across the UK"
"Kate's here also with the..."

It was very noticable on the regional news, extend the stories to at least two sentances please!

The regional news needs to be extended to 3 minutes and there should be another bulletin at 7:45 (& 8.15), who came up with the idea of having the last bulletin at 7:15? All the crews and presenters will still be there I expect!

Rather than pose an unnecessary examination-esque question, why don't you answer your own post and point out the differences (aside from the blatantly obvious, please).

I am loving the music Wink

It gets so annoying, even when it's heard through the muffled haze of the shower in the bathroom: it's every 5-10 minutes.... Shocked
