It looks way too dark - not just the background, the whole studio seems to be lacking illumination. The steps are the brightest element - shurely shome mishtake?

Will try to catch it this week and see if it grows on me.

The pumpkins are awful.

Although the studio itself is rather dark, the window view is going to appear darker for even longer as sunrise gets later.

By the time Christmas arrives, it will be black outside for all but the final 20 minutes of the programme, yet from April-August the sunrise will have already happened before the programme starts, which may make the studio seem a little brighter.

I agree about the pumpkins!

but I got shot down for making a comment about the studio set.

Huh?

Was watching Daybreak with the "Auto Wide" setting on which switches between 16:9 or 4:3 automatically instead of stretching 4:3 programmes. However, Daybreak seemed to keep switching between 16:9 and 4:3 every few seconds or so which meant I had to change the settings.

Isn't your TV set up to do that normally?

If not, don't you get frustrated to see 'stretchy-vision' pictures on some channels? I'd rather see the switching, no matter how often it happens.

No, my TV (and all other widescreen TVs I have) are set up to just a "16:9" setting which stretches the source picture if it's 4:3. I have to change the setting manually.

And what do you mean do I get frustrated to see 'stretchy-vision' on other channels? I don't because I have the Auto Wide setting on. And I'll turn it back on when I use the TV next as the last time I used it was obviously in the morning to watch Daybreak.

On the whole I think the show demonstrated a lot of promise, but as others have highlighted it's not without it's issues.

I thought the studio looked great once the sun started to rise, if perhaps a little bare. Wasn't keen on how it looked whilst dark outside, and that's a concern going into the winter - when the sun starts to rise at about 8ish. Perhaps they'll wheel in a picture of the backdrop in daylight until it get's light Smile How long before Tasmin is switched to the other desk or screened off ? Her position doesn't offer much of a view anyway.

The content seemed fairly pacey and more newsy, Tamsin certainly got through a lot of stories and I liked the correspondents in the studio. The 8am back half hour seemed at a different pace and will presumably be for feature reports / guests.

Not keen on the weather, and ITV have again missed the opportunity to unify the weather graphics on the channel. That's something that is consistent on the BBC throughout all output and works well.

When might the ratings be released? I'm thinking with it being an early morning show, we may get them by late evening?

Just because it's a morning show doesn't mean it's realesed later the same evening.

Ratings will be released tomorrow with all the others at around 9/10 am.

So, you don't get frustrated with distorted pictures? You prefer to fill the screen, rather than see a picture in its correct ratio?

Each to their own!

My opinion regarding the windows and view....
Using 'live exterior views' causes a lot of work balancing the lighting levels, colour temperatures, reflections etc.

Is it really worth the trouble?

The "Andrew Marr" show on BBC 1 Sunday has the same effect with very little problems as it's consistent. I would imagine that in this case, it's a matter of push a few buttons, run the DVD, and get on with the programme content .

After all, what is the programme about? Programme content or a fancy, and sometimes distracting, background?
Besides, what does it prove, what does it achieve?

For parts of the United Kingdom a programme "Live From London" (and to prove it here's a live picture through our window), means absolutely zero, (or even less!).
