I don't know what it was this morning, whether it was the way they dressed or not, but Kate and John looked much more professional together in the studio today! It was also an embarrassment that John, a senior and journalistic presenter was forced to adhere to the sloppy content that Daybreak airs. His anchorman experience is being wasted. I never rated John that highly, but he made a welcome change this morning.

I didn't like the feature (which I didn't pay my full attention to) about a dog at about 6.45am. The dog went in search for Johns wallet over the studio and gave away a few interesting shots, and then John threw some treat at the dog before it had return, as if John didn't want the dog near him.

I noticed the quarter to headlines still exist, I normally don't see one after 8am so I am glad they still do them although very basic.

I am sure I saw a coming up graphic at about 6.40am saying 'australias floods next' and it never was feature before 7am. Only things happened in 6.30 - 7am was one story I missed, Sue Jameson on the By Election I think a break or headlines then the other followed by the story about the dog and then a interview before weather and toth.

I miss in the mix, so unless I start watching +1 I will start thinking about another channel in the morning.
Oh and yes good to see John presenting this morning! Very Happy

The owner told John to throw the treat as soon as the wallet was found.

In the US, the Today show (which, I think, the Film "Morning Glory"'s "Daybreak" programme is modelled on), is now into its 60th year. I've been downloading the 1st hour podcast of it via iTunes for some while now, and it's grown on me. Pity you only get the 1st hour (although it goes on for 4 hours, which would be a bind, I suppose!).

Having been to New York last year and done the NBC Studio tour, I'm impressed by the accessibility of the programme (studio on street level, etc) and mix of content. I don't know if ITV are/were aiming for something similar with the change to Daybreak, but it's obviously yet to gel with the viewers.

Interestingly, NBC have got round the issue of the dark mornings with a motorised light blue frosted screen (with "TODAY" continously etched) that rises and falls behind the anchors desk between shots and segments (Very similar screen used in the MG film). I wonder if that's where ITV got the idea from fro their screens?

I've added the link to NBC and a video from the prog about their 60 years, which some may be interested in (opening shots show the studio in Rockerfeller Plaza)

TODAY studio has many presentation points which also helps spread out the programme. As the show progresses, they move to sofa area, chair for interviews, outside and so on. The fourth hour of Today aimed at woman doesn't seem to have done their brand any harm - i wonder if Daybreak would consider moving Lorraine back under the Daybreak with Lorraine name.

Then what would they do with the kitchen that lorraine uses etc... Use the same studio

Well the studios are pretty close together

Or just buy an empty shop and do it up - plenty around! Exclamation

Daybreak should have a street level studio

Daybreak should have a street level studio

But I suppose we could list a lot of things it should and should not have, nothing is perfect - We are stuck with Daybreak pretty much as it is with the people that are in control, watch it or flick it I suppose we will get told!

Few minor problems this morning

Just as it was coming up to 8am, the weather summary was played and just before it go to the end they had already started the toth theme (so a bit of overlapping)

Then at 8.10(approx) when they to Lorraine, she pulled a face at the end probably something to do with the clip of Piers Morgan but normally she chats back and didn't just pulled a face.

At 8.15approx for the Anglia opt, we heard the very first note of the the theme music played before going to Anglia. Shame I would really like to know what is played when an opt out fails.

Then I think it was the sting into the break after the local opt and competition we have no 'Daybreak' logo appear just the back ground clip and sound.

Just the closing bed, looped.

I think someone mentioned that the default feed is just a static 'Daybreak' caption with the 2 minute version* of the theme music.

EDIT:
* Perhaps I've imagined a 2 min version of the theme music. I'm sure I saved it when someone posted it on here, but I can't seem to find it. Confused

EDIT2:
I see MikeW has already provided the correct answer!
