Wasn't blown away by the lighting if I'm honest.

I've only seen YouTube clips, but it looked dreadful to me. If the low grid is the issue, I'd at least be using Kinoflo or Arri Studio Cool.

Ha, so their state of the art studio was hobbled due to them not properly investigating the shortcomings of the building. Fab. Course if they'd spend a million less on them two they could have probably afforded to change the windows but as ever, with all their multimillion pound BBC swipes like Ross Kemp, ITV know best.

Ben posted:
One of those that uses tiny beads on the grey 'cloth' to reflect the green LED lights, it does explain why the quality isn't great. Sky do/did use that technique for their weather CSO which I've always found a bit fuzzy.

You mean one of these?

A creation of BBC Research that was designed to overcome the problems with normal blue/green clothes so interesting that you always think it looks worse.

Also - AIUI the windows don't have the Rosco polariser system - as when tested it interacted with the 60s tempered glass and patterned (a bit like car windscreens used to) and couldn't be used.

Even though the windows are from the 1990's?

Although I've only seen Youtube clips, I did love that backdrop - lovely. I don't like Tasmin's little desk area at all - I'd rather they just got rid of it and had her present from the sports/ entertainment bar.

I didn't think it being dark outside was a particularly bad thing to be honest - I really liked the effect and it felt very in keeping with six in the morning (if I'm going out in the dark, I don't want to see a sunny London view) - but that reflection behind Tasmin was awful.

One interesting observation I haven't seen anyone else pick up on. Christine said "it's our new home, technically isn't it", then later "so that is it, our new home for the next well well, we hope".

To start saying "That's our new home for the next..." seemed a little odd to me - it's quite probably she was just nervous and not thinking of what she was saying, or if rumours that Adrian and Christine are only launch presenters for the new programme (similar to Kate Silverton on the BBC's 8pm bulletin or Sir Trevor McDonald to NaT's relaunch), it's possible she nearly let something slip and did a clever save. I'm sure I'm reading too much into it though.

All the laughing felt to Adrian's jokes felt too The One Show, yet still worked within the programme, and I actually thought Dan Lobb fitted in much better than he did on GMTV.

Lighting was pretty atrocious, but with these launches / relaunches they often are, aren't they? Could it be they'll relight again and again and eventually get it right?

And you know what, I'd have preferred a different weather presenter to Lucy, who both on Daybreak and at Sky seems very wooden. Picking a man - even someone like Jay Wynn or Alex Deakin - would have made things more interesting.

Overall I thought it wasn't disappointing like so many launches/ relaunches are, but that studio (other than the brilliant skyline) wasn't particularly great. And who the hell thought those desks were a good idea?

I like everything about daybreak except these two points which I'd like to flag up.

-HD is brilliant however majority of reports were all SD filmed. Also I think the news in Lorraine was also HD despite the show being in SD
-Weather: I was hoping it would be improved, seems not. The map itself is better, the graphics are not. I think they should use more of that rainfall thing, and also could they not position the cloud cover in the same way as they use the tempreatures?

Ignoring those two points, it's 10/10 for me.

Any new programme takes a while to settle down.
In this case, first impressions do not count.

Give it a week, or two.

All the comments are valid, but.....

The first TX was probably not the way the team had intended. Let it 'bed-in' for a few days.

"First-night" nerves count for a lot.

Sometimes your new shoes don't fit, but after you have worn them a while you can grow to like them.
Personally, the short excerpt of the new programme I saw, I didn't like.... but give it chance.

Are the Loose ladies using elements of Lorraine's set ?

It's gone very pink - a big improvement actually.

My pal was there today, and just uploaded this snap.

Does this answer the question?

With all due respect, I think you risk patronising a vast number of members here. I think only a very, very few idiotic members will have made up their mind permanently based on today's programme.

Controversial: the shot of the Clifton Suspension Bridge was used on Daybreak: The West Country Today – I bet the folk of Devon and Cornwall loved that!

Much prefer the honesty of that, rather than the fabrication of the Brunel and Tamar Bridges shot used in the pre break Westcountry Tonight segment.

...and it slightly closer than the view of somewhere in the Midlands which we get watching on ITV1 HD - we end up with Central News. Confused

No not at all. I was mainly saying I think the vast majority on here would agree with what you're saying.

Sorry it may have come across slightly differently. Confused
