Certainly they're using the big names to relaunch the breakfast service, bring in new viewers and show that it is something new. Once that is done and settled they could carry on with entirely unknown presenters so long as they were up to the job.
The filming for this year's series is already as far as boot camp, so I'd hazard a guess that if this story is true (which I very much doubt), it is referring to next year. Unless they think it's likely that Dermot would present the audition stage shows and not the live shows.
Christine was one of the rumoured names to present The Xtra Factor this year but, again, they've already filmed the audition stages with Konnie Huq presenting.
I assume Lorraine won't return to her slot until the rebrand. Was it even referenced that it was her last "GMTV" appearance when she finished for the summer. The trailers certainly imply "GMTV with Lorraine" is only on a summer break with guest hosts filling in when we know "GMTV with Lorraine" has effectively finished, even if "Lorraine" will be exactly the same.
Just how many names has her slot gone through - I'm sure it had a couple of brands before they settled on LK Today too.
She had a show on Sky One, not strictly the same programme continuing. It had its own set which consisted of a white curtain behind the usual GMTV sofa.
